Transfering Maps

Hi Guys
I wonder if anyone out there can help.
Next month I am going on a trip to the eiffel mountains with a group of guys
I have been sent an e mail that contains a route of the destinations and stops on the way to load onto my Garmin 660 sat nav.
I have saved it on the computer but I am not able to transfer it to the Device. If open File on the menu in Map source the title of the route appears but non of the detail is listed in the main box on the left hand side and no route is highlighted on the map so I have not saved it correctly. I have no idea where I can get some help. The Garmin "support" site gives answers to many questions but not to my one
Why do they supply such a complicated piece of equiptment and absolutely no instructions as to how to use it?
At the moment I want to put a hammer through it!!
Any ideas? please before I smash it up.

What format is the file in eg gpx, gbd .....?

Open up Mapsource and click on the "help" at the top and then select "about mapsource".

If it needs updating select the option below "about Mapsource".

Hi, e-mail received and I've opened the file ok either by saving it onto my desktop and opening it from Mapsource or just by double clicking on the file itself in the e-mail.

Do you think that may be the problem?
If you give me your telephone No I will ring you and we can go through it and see what Im doing Wrong
