Elvie and I have been wandering around Hungary and Slovakia for the past couple of weeks. We have been using a combination of large scale Michelin maps, and the Zumo 550. On several occasions we have trusted to Mr.Zumo alone, and have been rewarded with some spectacular rides. I would add that we aren't off roaders so the Zumo isn't set to take us off road. We have seen small villages and wonderful scenery that we otherwise wouldn't have encountered. For that first time last night while taking the quickest route back to our campsite our Zumo mis led us. We went up a very small road that was 18 Km long and had large numbers of enormous poholes, and was strewn with gravel. The bikes behaved impeccably, and we managed to hang on. Great experience in retrospect, and we've not been put off using Mr.Zumo in a similar way again.
Has anyone else had similar experiences?

GPS's will often lead you on roads you would never think to turn onto when selecting smaller roads, or shortest route... it's their most enduring feature IMHO.:oonyack

Have had a few problems like - A couple of weeks ago in France, my Zumo 550 directed us to leave the main road and up this country lane - maybe short cut I thought
Then said next right which then became a pot holed track which seemed to be leading to a farmhouse :ymca

I could see the uncertainty of my mates who had not had the forthought to buy an all terrain bike :P who then questioned the wisdom of this route

I pointed out that Zumo shows that the road carries on and re-joins main road again - so we carried on another couple of hundred yards and ended up in a (200 year old) farm court yard cul-de-sac:nenau

I have not got the latest map upgrade as have not worked out how to do this :blast but I will probably ask Cookie as it was his fault that I bought it in the first place :augie

It must be a France/Zumo thing !
Mine did excactly the same thing. It said ''Navigate off road'' which I did (with 4 other bikes following me!) Nice farm yard I must say, but not where I wanted to be!:augie

It also had a habit of routing us off the main road, through a deserted little village and back onto the main road behind the 6 lorries we'd spent 1/2 hour overtaking! Honest to god we overtook one Log carrying truck 3 times!
:blast

Ditto to your story - by being diverted from main roads - we re-overtook about 3 or 4 times a couple of securicor type vehicles - they must have though we were sizing them up
