I fitted the TT oil cap (the one with the hex piece as part of the kit) The hex peice has a wiast with a rubber O ring at the cap end.

Straight forward replacement but the key ring I threaded the hex bit on to use for leverage (as recommended) was too broad and so I used an adjustable spanner which was to hand to turn the cap beyond hand tight.

No more than an extra 1/8th turn and the hex piece sheared at it's waist! Leaving the tip and the O ring in the cap!!

Fortunately the waist has come away on the long (free) end, and it looks like I can pick out the O ring, turn over what is left of the hex peice and remove the cap if need be. But I guess I'll be calling TT on Monday to see if they'll replace the hex bit and/or replace the lot for the other option they do.

Anyone else suffered this?

I've got one of these....and thought it was a "Tor-x 50" bit to remove/fit?
Fitted it hand-tight using just the Tor-x socket from my Halford's kit.

Bike much faster than ones with spoked wheels now.....

Torx was a different option.

I chose the hex one becasue it came with the bit. The Torx option was marketed with "using the torx bit from your GS tool roll"!

Not on an 05 purchase!!!

Can't say I see a problem with the OEM item.....

Fair point, but not all the tinkering we do is because there is a problem?

my mate's sheared as well - touratech replaced it for the torx cap....I've got one too - looks better than the oem black plastic....

Mine's in the post, TT say they'll swap for the Torq option and refund the few pence difference.
