hi,my 06gs has now covered 12.5k on its original front tourance.
it will need replacing soon but i am impressed! the rear had to be replaced at 4k because of a horrendous puncture so that has now reached 8.5k.

Not bad is it!

I'd stick with the old style Tourances if you can get them ... good grip and good longevity:thumb

Avoid Tourance EXP tyres, easily confused with the original Tourance.

I had a new rear Tourance fitted last week, no problems with availability but be sure to specify the right tyre when ordering or you could get supplied with the wrong item.

The EXP's have little noticeable extra grip but a lot less wear resistance than the original, my mate only got 4K from his rear EXP as original fitment to his 08 GSA and isn't impressed.

I've recently bought my 16000 mile 1200GS. The seller said the first pair of Tourance tyre lasted 15000 miles before he replaced them.

Have ridden on Tourance and Tourance EXP.

EXP wears MUCH faster, but really sticks to the road, in wet or dry. Warms up fast but doesn't desintegrate. Ideal in any kind of weather, including colder weather. There's not much you can throw at these tyres that they won't hold, REALLY impressive ! Even tarstripes will not worry you too much. Handles terribly well, almost nervous. A real fun tyre.

The old Tourance wins on longevity, but doesn't handle as well (in comparison the GS has to be pushed into the curve), and although satisfying, it definitely has less grip. You cannot really blame this tyre for anything. Hence it's popularity.

At Cologne fair last year EXP was promoted as 'sportstyre', whereas old Tourance was dubbed 'tourer'. I think that's a spot-on description by Metzeler.

I guess it's the typical trade-off : longevity or grip.
I don't care too much about longevity, and have found the perfect tyre in EXP.

I have Battle Wings on my 1200GSA as original fitment. I can't complain about the grip levels as they seem good but the rear is looking decidedly secondhand after only 4K miles. There's a reasonable amount of tread left but it's squaring off at an alarming rate. I'm running 2.5/2.9 bar.
