This is the one question that always gets numerous answers. For what its worth I have fitted Dunlop TR91's to my 08 GSA (moved from Battlewings) and I love them. Look great and bike handles very well.

I cannot possibly comment on tyres but 4000 miles in two weeks, nearly 300 a day is not, in my humble opinion, the best way to tour France.

Heidenau K60 Scouts for me on the 1200 GSA fully loaded.

Just did a quick trip from North to Southern Europe over 9 days and can't fault them at all.

Conti trail attacks, IMHO, are a great tyre in both wet & dry conditions, and wear rate for me was circa 9.5kmiles, but that included some fantastic European passes sticking up our euro cousins!!

I am currently running Heidenau K60's, as I put them on for my recent trip to Morocco....again, great performance in wet & dry conditions, good on & off road, and after 4k miles have hardly worn at all.

Anyhoo back to tyres, I Run anakee's on the road and find them great for all round use inc light trails and the wet but may consider changing to Conti trail as they seem to get good feedback (I too am very tight)

My only concern is the wet, anybody else have thoughts on it?

I have heard these are very good both wet and dry
I run Conti Trail attacks, good in dry ok in wet.Manage 10k on front and about 8k on rear. Both tyres are now worn so will be going to the Dunlop TR91's for a change.

I've changed the tyres for every traillie I've had from the faux-off-road to road based and have noticed a marked improvement in handling (Tiger 955i, Buell Ulysses and GS1200 now). I am currently running Conti Road Attack 2's which make the bike turn in better and generally feel more settled in the twisties. The Battleaxes made the rear squirm a lot when I was getting things on a bit and were cr*p in the wet. I really, really didn't like them on any of the traillies. Must admit that all the other observers in my IAM group have moved to Road Pilots and swear by them, varying bike types as well.
Still - whatever scratches your itch so to speak!!

12k on my last set before a rear puncture, still 3mm left on each, so new set on (I never fit tyres in one's) 6.5k on second set so far, 3rd set still in storage, bought 3 sets from Busters when they had them on offer!

I've got Avon Distanzia's on the Airheads and they are very good, I'm sure they come in 1200GS size, I'd be tempted to try them as well, seem to have good wear rate and good in wet and dry!

Changed my Anakee 2s last month 10500 miles front and back.Still some tread left but not enough to get me to Crete and back plus mileage in between. Expect to do 5-6000 miles before return. Mixed travel - autostrada etc plus Crete hairpins and mountain tracks.Mostly two up with luggage. Good tyres

Tyres are a very subjective choice. You will read good and bad about all of them, although I suspect that many handling criticisms are more to do with worn suspension, poorly set up suspension, incorrect tyre pressures etc.

well here is my two penny worth, just put new tyres on for tirp to Black Forest and round Germany, being a tight wad chose cheap ones and got the Mitas equivilant to the tourance and at £140 the pair damn good they are to, ok a bit noisy on the road compared to others I have used, but it pissed it down the first couple of days on the road and wet weather manners were great, pleanty of grip wet or dry and they held up well, how long they will last I dont know but they have over 3000 miles on them now and dont look in the least bit worn.
Now ok they are on an 1100 but I dont see much difference except on my bike they will be carrying a bit !! of extra weight.

+1 for Conti road attacks.
I think you either have full off road tyres like TCK80 or go for road tyres. I find that the dual purpose tyres are a compromise.
Off road tyre = mud plugging / byways / out in the cuds
On road tyre for tarmac, better handling, longer life than dual purpose.
On Conti road attacks, I get 6-7K out of a rear.
My GSA came with tourance on it. The rear only lasted 4K! Admittedly I do 'make progress' when out. Also the DOHC engine above 6.5K = tyre shredding.
