Just picked up my first GS, Triple Black and gorgeous! Love it!! Only downside is that I use a radio for bike training and there is nowhere to put it under the seat!!?? Wiring it into the bike battery is no problem but storage is a different matter. Just wondered if anyone else has had problems like this and how they have got around it.
Any ideas / help!! Cheers.

Do you use the pillion seat much? If not, then the easy solution would be to fit the BMW Luggage Plate which replaces the rear seat and the luggage rack and allows you to fit a Vario top box in the pillion position. The luggage plate has a hinged lid and a small storage compartment under it into which you could probably fit your radio.

This is a pic off the luggage plate on my bike with a view into the open storage compartment....

Neat but if you fit the top box, won't it make it awkward/impossible to throw your leg over to get on the bike? Unless you can try the hurdling style!

Also, I see that you need to lose the grab rails, so is there a grip point to use when putting on centre stand?

You can get a puncture repair kit in there.

In Queensland (Oz), we have single seat registration - this is much cheaper than dual seat. I never carry pax, so win win.

Yes, you can't swing your leg over, but you get used to it. As for the centre stand, I grab hold of the bottom of the top box.

Is it something you wire in and leave, or need access too? There is storage space under the rear rack, you just need to take the plastic seat tray off. It used to be an accessible space from the passenger seat but Bmw blocked it with the dynamic brake ECU thing

Unless you weight some 150 kg or even more, I would say that you're putting unnecessary strain on your topbox and its mounting points when putting your bike on the centerstand. When it breaks, and sooner or later it will, you will end up with a broken topcase or its mounting base and, likely, your bike will fall to its side as it will happen while trying to place the bike on the center stand !

I would strongly suggest that you either pull the bike up grabbing the chassis's diagonal bar if with no side cases are fitted or, else, purchase and install a handle. I recall that Wunderlich sells them.

Ref space under the seat, have you actually tried fitting the radio and then the seat. If on high setting, there is more room than you think. I have an Intaride Hawk radio and it fits under the seat with ease. My seat is high at the front and low at the rear.

Our group (3 GS and 3 GSA) use Motorola radios and autocom for coms and we get them right back into the space behind the rear light unit. Tight fit but they will fit.

from the dark side this was sent

There is room I've had 2 lc gsa models and although tight you can fit autocom and kenwood pmr. but i have just done away with all that on my 2016 bike and fitted blue tooth set up working good after initial problems, using sena kenwood and some bespoke bits

call me if i can help

What about the space between the rear light and rack? You can buy a case that slots in nicely. Put it in there.
