Looking into buying the US map of the lower 48 States for my 660 as I'll take it with me for use in the hire car while on holiday next March.
Is it cheaper to buy stateside or through Garmin in UK?

Thanks,

When you arrive, head for the nearest Walmart and spend US$60 on a new Garmin.

Turn on, enjoy!

Absolute piece of piss to get anywhere in the US with just a map..for $10

Until you want to find streets, businesses or restaurants in the middle of a city.
I take a GPS with me whenever I go to the US.

Find a helpful Merrycan who belongs to the AAA (American Automobile Assoc.) and ask him to get a set of FREE maps which cover the states you'll be driving through. I've still got the excellent maps I used in 2002 and 2006 and shall use them again one day.:rob

That would be my recommendation.

Alternatively, if you want to play about and store destinations before you go - buy a US/Canadian Garmin off Ebay. :thumb2

I had a hire-car in Texas, and it came with a shitty little Garmin that was permanently set - so that you couldn't do any adjustments to it..... without stopping the car :blast

So - bought my own for about £80 in UK- afterwords, through the business :thumb2

Buy the Rand McNally road atlas for about $6.00 in any truck stop. Has large maps of each state and most big cities in it. If you'd like, I can buy ya one and post it over to you prior to your trip.

Buying a cheap GPS at WalMart is an excellent idea as well. They're cheap and come preloaded. Sell it on after your trip and it'll cost you nearly nothing.

You can get Garmin US mapping off fleabay for around £25:thumb However, buy state maps when you get there ($5 in any garage) to plan your routes as you can see everything in front you on a decent scale.

On all the trips I do and have done in the US, I only use GPS as a back up and for finding motels or specific addresses:thumb
