Vines

autogs is right....................

You reap what you sow

Dealing with a dealer is a bit of give and take and getting to know them

It's all about realistic negotiation

Unrealistic negotiation and they think you're a tyrekicker, so they lose interest quickly

Plus when you know the deal is right, you have to close it

'Indecisiveness' in a buyer is a classic weakness

I think you assume too much there Johnny.

This is what I recall happening.

Alex the salesman had to fit stuff to my bike himself because we had a deal and he didn't get agreement with the workshop so he had to do it himself. So instead of just sitting at his desk he suggested I book the bike in for its first service.

Beaming with a smile (as it's new toy day) I asked the lady to book us in.

1. Saturday was not possible because bike needs to cool and not enough time(however it was offered to the other bloke a couple of weeks later as mentioned above)
2. Drop it off Friday night for saturday service .. again no (Vines bloke offered to the other bloke to go pick it up from his house on the friday for a saturday service)
3. As for collection and drop off from my work place (PAID FOR EXTRA BY ME .. NOT ASKING FOR FREEBIE) .. NOT POSSIBLE. Again Vines bloke offered other bloke that if he didn't want him to collect his bike he could send the van round.

Ultimately the only option given to me given I work in central london was to take a day off work on a weekday to get the bike serviced.

Yet a couple of weeks later the same options I HAD TO SUGGEST TO THE LADY AT VINES was offered FREELY by the Vines bloke to this other bloke with a new GSA .. just like mine.

So not indecisive at all in that instance mate. Just Vines being a ****!

The garage where I have my bike serviced now is in central london. Once someone tampered with my bike in a bike bay. Found some bits hanging off the bike when I got home. Didn't feel safe riding it back into central london to get it sorted. The garage sent a van to my house at the time I wanted .. picked up bike .. fixed problem and delivered it back to my house .. ALL FOC!! I didn't ask for it to be FOC, I fully expected to pay but they CARED!!

I tried not to rant but I think you guys just don't get it unless I spelt it out clearly.

On the day when the lady refused all the options, I was still smiling. It was only when I went back a couple of weeks later and overheard that conversation between the vines bloke and the customer picking up his GSA that I got angry.

Just in case you guys still don't get it.

1. I am not fussed if something isn't offered at all by a company to its customer base. I don't ask for that.
2. What I dislike are companies that offer services selectively to their customer base

Did I mention you, Tom?

I only quoted autogs

Reading your description of events and the inability to do the first service, with an option suitable to yourself, I know what i would have done

Told Alex to keep his 12GSA and put it back into stock and promptly walked out............

Can't service a bike on a Sat, as it has to cool down to check the valves.............how long do they want for it to cool down?
Are they going to change the oil from a cold engine too................complete bollox

Tom, I wasn't quoting you

You should have bought elsewhere in the UK

So how long do you think they should wait for the engine to cool sufficiently for the valve clearance to be set.

1hr
2hr
3hr

and is the customer going to wait this long

Also why change the oil on a cold engine.

Just adjust the valves - engine cold

start engine and warm it up

then --- change oil.

I think this is not the issue though.

It seems that the salkes staff in Vines will do anything for a sale but the service staff will not back it up.

I had the same problem - promised a free first service by sales but then not honoured by the service dept.

Have not been back since.

sales staff in any business will over promise and under deliver by a margin, after all they are sales people and it's all about margins. Sales people as I understood it, are there to push the product out the door, when I did it (different industry) we got told don't worry about the good stuff concentrate on selling the crap.

Service personal are different creatures they work in facts and figures, (I now work in the service industry) they have to be more black and white or there is no order.

It's the way of the world...

Why should any dealer be any different. If Park Lane was the last BMW dealer in the UK and I wanted a BMW, I'd go to germany and buy it there.

Ehh....................most dealers do a service in one day, not dropping off the night before and coming back the next day

How long................drop the bike off in the morning, take out the loan bike to get you home/go for a ride and pick yours up in the afternoon.....simples:thumb

I have never had any issues with Bahnstormers - Alton.

What the sales guy says - HAPPENS - maybe they have a different / better company ethic

I use Park Lane (or Battersea) for all my servicing. Dean Buck, the manager, is a top bloke, far superior than the people I met at Vines. He has ensured his whole team in service have the same attitude as him. So now even when he is not around I am confident of getting things sorted without drama.

HOWEVER .. his colleagues in the parts department are probably worst than the guys at Vines. That is saying something.

Not tried sales department on Park Lane so can't comment.

the schools bikes as I understand are allocated buy a kind of dealer auction, they (vines) know the market and bid in such a way they can sell them on...... QUOTE]

The Off Road Skills school bikes are subject to a dealer auction but are sold as job lots - you can't pick and choose which bikes to buy. This year there were 3 separate lots.

well that's the best guess I've ever made...so whoever bid more won the bikes...then how many where there as a matter of interest? Cos we'll be able to workout the approximate cost with a simple calculation.

I think this thread shows us why we have more than one BMW dealer in the South. ??

But to describe Vines as C===s is a bit OTT.

As mentioned its all done to how you treat other people, act like an assH+++ get treated :clap like one. If the HELMET fits WEAR IT. PAL

Just a quick note to add my dealer experience with Vines. I called them...I didn't drop in as I am miles away, so in a way I had already made there job very easy.

Sales guy (Alan) was very good, Made a few "Mistakes" along the way, and the bike was driven to me within 4 days of ordering (Almost 200 miles) Where i was met with Paul the lorry driver, who was ever so professional, and a real credit to Vines, Made sure everything was demo'd showed me around and expalined everything I needed..excellent.

Bad points.....

I spoke to Duncan once, who was clearly very hassled and busy when I called to clear up a few points...whilst I understand people are busy....I did feel he was a tad rude.

I left a chunky deposit on agreement that if it fell through I would get my money back, Then when I was emailed the form to sign the next day...It stated that by signing the form I wasn't entitled to any deposit back. This had me worried!! I think they need to know between them if the deposit is returnable or not.

Apart from these two things and a small misplacement of the V5.....all in all a positive experience and I would recommend them.

Easy Deal

Bought a bike from them last Sat. We agreed a p/ex over the phone for my bike and I sent some pics to confirm (650GS single).

They were great. Arrived (from Taunton) on my old bike, they taxed the 650GS (twin) for the year and I rode home on my new bike. It even had a vario topcase on they hadn't mentioned so I was well pleased!

Good deal (Alan / Duncan) and good service. I'm happy.
