Hi, my collector box is heavily stained, looks like rust and despite lots of elbow grease it will not clean up. Bike done 5200 miles nad is 5 months old. Is anybody elses the same? Is the the headers/collectors stainless steel? it looks terrible! any dealers repalced one under warranty for this?

Cheers

Are the WC headers chrome plated?
They are stainless but unless they have chrome on them they will still discolour to a brown rusty look, it's the heat that does it.

that's why I chose the chrome option 10.000 miles and still looks good.

Try Optiglanz....spray this on the brown stuff and this will bring it back to shiny steel.

Cheers

Might take them off in november and get them chrome plated,

Chrome platers will not touch a used exhaust... The carbon inside mucks up the plating chemicals... !!

They all discolour, it's part of the charm....

Platers who do classic exhausts say the gunk is no problem. All parts are pickled to remove old chrome & that cleans out any gunk.

Some refuse to do stainless (no idea why) but it's a good material to plate onto. I used to have worn stainless shafts hard chrome plated and ground back to size.

Check out plating services in classic and custom bike mags.

Because it's a different process to chrome plating mild steel and won't stand any impurifications - hence most only due new items and won't touch used items

I searched high and low, but to no avail

Thanks for the advice, just ordered some wonder wheels...

As already stated do not put this on ya wheels, when you apply with the brush that comes with the stuff, just apply it to the exhaust and no where else. Than wash off, its also good for removing oil stains off slabs .

Wouldn't chroming the exhaust also fubar the cat? I assume that the chroming solution will get to the inside of the exhaust as well?
