I have fitted Weiser Wizerds with the additional Denali brake/running light to the rear of my 1300

Whist riding the bike I have had a warning appear on my TFT screen on 2 occasions....REAR BRAKE LIGHT FAILURE. I immediately cancel this using the wizz wheel to reveal a second warning....CRUISE CONTROL INOPERATIVE. On each ocassion the right (indicator) and Denali light brake/running lights had failed. If I stop, switch off and restart the engine the warnings disappear.

Obviously this is not a problem for BMW so I've spoken to Mark at Weiser who was very helpful and knows of similar issues. He thinks a software update will probably solve the problem and suggested I could disconnect the Denali until I get the bike's software is updated.

In the meantime, has anyone else had this problem and, if so, did you find a solution?

Many thanks

Mike

I had this just the other day…. First time, and I’ve had the WW and Denali fitted formonths.
Turned off and when turned back on, all worked fine .
I will ignore it until it happens again….if it ever does.

Ive had the rear brake light failure message which cleared when the bike was restarted. Only happened the once so far. If a SW upgrade is required I take it the rig would have to be shipped back to WW? :thumby:

The software update I referred to is to the bike, not WW. I will have this done at the next service in March

I’ve had it twice on two consecutive days after motorway runs. No probs on short journeys though.

those issues are normal for most owners when you add that box... I would suggest its all monkeys with no idea fumbling around in canbus junk getting confused by both companies - if they blame each other they can both do nothing about it, which is their ideal situation

if a software update to the bike resolves the issue - then Weiser need to modify their madness to accommodate older and later bikes - especially as BMW hate to update bikes and in 20 years there will still be many that never got touched

although in today's world of far too much software by halwits, its changing fast - almost every other day they realise they never turned on a feature, left some safety thing half off, and its so secure its like a bank leaving the vault open at weekends

At Least it’s consistent……..

Boring, but consistent…..

This is a common problem due to the voltage tolerances on the canbus network.

I reported this issue to Weiser back in July and was told my bikes software was too old (ended in .040) and to get my dealer to update it as the one that ends in .060 fixes the issue as it raises the canbus voltage tolerance.

Dealer updated it to .050 which they swear is the latest and 2 other dealers said the same but this did not fix the issue.

Weiser told me this issue is very rare but I’ve now spoken to at least 15 people with the issue and some do have the .060 update.

I had to get a bit shirty with Weiser as I cannot compel the dealer to do anything if their system says my bike is on the latest firmware plus owners with the .060 update are also having the issue.

Weiser have sent me some modified modules to test but they cannot be sure it will cure it and it sometimes happens after 70 miles riding but other times not for 2000 miles.

Thanks that.

Your experience is exactly the same as mine, with the same response from Weiser.

Not sure if would help try giving James a call at ShinySide up, he fits all this stuff and seems to a bit of an authority.

peeJ1977..... Same happened to me today.. I installed the weiser wizzards complete with the b6 connection "plug and play" for the tail and brake light soon after collecting my r1300 gs from new.. and have covered over 4,000 miles with no TFT errors.. few weeks ago I also installed the weiser b6 "high level" tail and brake light which I connected to my denali cansmart 2 which as a b6 tail and brake light connector on one of the 4 can smart connectors.. along with a set of drl4's spots.. went for a ride No errors on the TFT.. all work as it should.. went out today for a 50 mile ride and same as you brake light error and then cruise control error flashed up on the TFT.. after turning off and on the error cleared and the errors did not flash up again on the home journey.. called Mark at weiser wizzards he said could be a software update required.. but already got the most recent update "as far as I know" which ends in 60.. I ask mark at weiser wizzards if he had any modified modules and he said NO.. but the tech guys are working on it! so not sure what modified modules he as sent you.... just to point out I did have my heated grips on on for the first 20 mins of the ride.. but then turned them off about 20 mins before the errors flashed up.. so not sure if it could be a drop or change in voltage which could have caused the errors.. also with it being dam cold this morning temperature could have played a part.. unless it happened to you before the latest cold snap! I don't think its the battery losing voltage as I always keep it on a bmw optimate.. and his reading 14.3 volts when running.. also I had the lithium battery replaced with the standard OEM lead acid battery 6 months ago.. as was getting the suspension error on the TFT and it was suggested the lithium battery may be the cause.. most likely it was as not had any suspension errors since changing from lithium to led acid.. so the lithium battery can't be the problem which was suggested! will see on the next few ride outs if the errors appear on the TFT again.. hopefully it could just be a one off thing.. if not will get back onto weiser by then they may have a fix or have modified the modules..

Thought I would point out.. to help anyone who has had the brake/cruise errors on the TFT and only had the wizards modules and the underplate b6 installed... As I did not have the brake/cruise errors with just the wizards modules and the underplate B6 light with or without heated grips on.. I only got the brake light/cruise errors after installing denali cansmart/drl4's spots and the high level B6 brake light while using the heated grips.. "the B6 high level brake light is connected via the cansmart" "the underplate B6 brake light is connected via the wizards modules" so both B6's are not drawing power from the same source.. However.. it seems the errors appeared only when using the heated grips after installing the denali cansmart/drl4's spots and the B6 high level brake light. However.. this as only happened the once so it may be just a "one off" hopefully!.. if it happens again then maybe the canbus won't allow 2 B6 lights at the same time.. if that is the case.. then will just unplugged one of the B6's.. the reason I connected the high level B6 brake light to the cansmart is.. I was told it's not possible to connect two B6'S via the wizards modules "even using a y-splitter" as that will draw to much power that's from the wizards.. that's why I connected the high level B6 via the cansmart.

I spent about an hour on the phone with Mark at Weiser yesterday and I said the same thing, im pretty adamant that every time ive had the issue the heated grips have been on

I assume you only have the wizard modules plus b6 underplate light installed.. if yes... That's my point for the second post I added.. as I've had the wizards modules plus B6 underplate brake/tail light installed just after I collected my r1300 gs from new.. also covered over 4,000 miles and also used the heated grips and heated seat and did not have any TFT errors with brake/cruise flashing up.. So I assumed it was because I've installed the high level b6 brake light.. if it is r1300gs canbus voltage tolerances causing the errors.. and you are only running the wizards and underplate B6.. the tolerances on yours must be even lower than mine..

I only have the wizards and the under plate B6 yes. But even if I disconnect the B6 I still get the issue.

I do have a hex Ezcan but disconnected that for a while and I still get the issue.

But I do also have the Datatool tracker on the bike which plugs into the canbus on a wiring loom extension
