helmets

Hi,

I personally have a Shoei XR1000 helmet and find it not to bad for noise compared to the other helmets I have had in the past. Although I have borrowed a friends Shuberth and its a huge improvement in terms of noise in the helmet... It feels much heavier though after an hour riding with it I felt a little tired with a heavy head wind.

Shoei XR 1000 - Good quality, venting & light.
A helmet can only be whats best for you, if its good quality & comfy on yer bonce its the one for you. Wear ear plugs on long rides or teach yourself lip reading!!

I have the Shoei Multitec. Great lid, but there ain't much space between your chin and the front of the helmet. With the Scala rider heaset installed I find myself eating the bloddy mic. My hearing is up shite creek from not wear plugs - been thinking about getting some molded ones but they seem pretty expensive. Using disposable at the mo.

I have an Arai RX7 Corsair in Colin Edwards Laguna Seca colours, (bought cos it matched my R1). Absolutely brilliant helmet; all day comfortable, excellent ventillation etc. It is however a very noisy lid but if you wear earplugs or in-ear headphones it's fine.

I also have a plain gloss black AGV Ti-Tech in case my Arai gets a good soaking on the way home and is still moist the next day.

Since it hasn't been mentioned yet : the Schuberth J1 is my preferred helmet : the large screen provides a great view (I get to see both cylinders while I ride:thumb), perfect slide down sunscreen, very good ventilation (wind comes in from under), mainly for use in warmer weather. Next to that I have a Schuberth C2 fitted with autocom, which is used in bad weather, or when GPSinfo or music is needed. Earplugs ? Always, except when going to a local shop.

if you fit Arai then IMO they are the best - I'd agree with everone here - get used to earplugs - somebody does a sampler set so that you can try different ones - for me Max work well

Errr, oooh, Arai or Arai ?

Arai Astro R, genuine Arai tinted pinlock visor with a photochromic pinlock insert - seriously good for those sunny/cloudy days

I use an Arai but instead of earplugs I have inner-ear earphones for my iPod. Passes the journey to work more quickly and as I have such a varied choice in music I am constantly surprised by what is on my iPod.

If I don't want music, then earplugs are a must.

For those who aren't that convinced...

I had to get a hearing test for work. At that time I worked an an airport. The test proved that my hearing in the range of motor cycle helemt noise was reduced. As it happens it is the same range as the noise from jet engines!

I have worn ear plugs and ear phone ever since. My last test showed no furtehr deterioration.

I currently have a C2 and my old Shoei Raid.

To be honest the C2 was not a good move, first impression where good but it has not grown to be my favourite and I still drag the old scruffy Shoei out from time to time.
One big draw back on the C2 is the anti mist coating on the visor. I am on my third visor and all of them have had problems with the coating flaking off or, in the case of the last one coming off in one big piece. My local dealer has had quiet a few with this problem so know I have a C2 with a fog city fitted and that seems to work well.

Allway wear ear plugs, it is way to easy to damage your hearing and not realise until it is too late. I learnt the hard way.
