I noticed an oil leak on the right side of the bike, under the engine just behind the brake pedal; there was oil drops under the engine falling on the bash plate; what worries me is that the clutch slipped twice when pushing hard but did not happen again; the bike is still under warranty but my bike will return to the dealer only on 19 September;

So what is the diagnosis Doctor ?

Do you think that I must stop riding til 19 September ?

Many thanks for your help !

Similar symptoms. Just took it in for BMW to have a look and its the dreaded gearbox/engine oil leak. Five hours labour, but you are OK if still in warranty. Best of luck and see other threads about this, there are quite a few, some with pictures. :)

If it's engine oil, it's the rear crankshaft oil-seal and if it's gearbox oil, it's a gearbox oil seal. I know, I've had both fail in short order. :(

Mine had the same problems, oil leak and occasional clutch slip at high revs. Mine was the gear box oil seal (or so I was told). All replaced under warranty including new clutch. Don't settle for anything less.

I rode mine for a few weeks before it went in without anything getting worse.

No.

If it is the first motion shaft seal, your clutch will slip a bit, but if you change down a gear or two the effect will be less pronounced.

Whilst I wouldn't embark on a RTW, your bike should be OK for local work until it's fixed.

Hi guys

I had a little problem too... my clutch was good in 1,2,3 and 4rd but as soon as I go to 5th its like there is a little bit of slip. If I gear down from 6th to 5th and open up then change back to 6th there was slip too. So I took it into the dealer and they replaced my clutch slave cilender on the handel bar. It seems all fine now again but I am going to give it a good test this weekend.

They have done the warrenty on the part and the bike is going in next week to get all the new parts fitted.

Cheers

Are you sure they didn't just syphon a few cc's of clutch fluid from the reservoir?

As the clutch wears on the 1200, the fluid level rises until it becomes full, at which point your clutch will slip.

Nope they fitted a loan unit to see if the problem persists. The new unit feels much better and the clutch is much grabbier

I only got the bike in March this year... and the unit they fitted was different to mine...

Well I will have to see if its fixed, I will give it a good thrashing this weekend.
