Just curious before i start looking for a 1200GS to replace my 1150...what year should i be looking for to ensure the twin cam 110bhp engine ??

You might be disappointed i went from the 1150 to a 1200GSA (110) and it isn't that good

i keep hearing that ! but i guess i have to find out myself first..i fancy a triple black if i can stretch to one, maybe i should have a look for a nice 1150ADV with lower miles..decisions decisions..

No :blast you'd regret that - please ignore the 1150 nay-sayers :loopy

Twin cam only has 2 rocker bolts either side, older 1200s have 4 :thumb

The 110 bhp motor is a big improvement in all areas & well worth holding out for. :beerjug:

There again he may not be dissappointed - a good long test ride which any BMW dealer will offer should allow the OP to make up his own mind ;)

Yes 105bhp up from 100bhp.

In reality the 2008 makes close to 100bhp at the rear wheel, which is similar to the 2010 Twincam, but with less mid-range power. The earlier 1200 generally makes 10bhp less as standard.

You can easily tell the difference between the engines from a distance, the spark plug covers are vertical on the DOHC and horizontal on the earlier model.

I liked my 2002 1150ADV, it was my first proper GS and did everything i wanted of it at the time, faultlessly!

I liked my 2007 HP2E aswell, it was handbuilt, much lighter but a bit rough round the edges for a 1200 and had crap brakes and suspension but it was unique.

I really do like my 2010 GSA30 it's just in a different league, pulls like a train, looks and sounds fantastic for a GS!

I can totally understand how folks like their ten year old 1150GS's though but Charles Darwin was right..........!

Yep. i agree time does move on..i do find the 1150 lacking sometimes on performance...just runs out of steam when you are riding with sprit sometimes, i'm used to 100bhp + bikes so i'm hoping to feel more at home on a 1200..:thumb2:thumb2

Kidding aside having done big miles on both the 1200 is in a different league at higher revs and speeds. They're closer at low to mid range although the twin-cam is a peach of an engine at any speed :thumb

+1 I found my 1150 GSA lacking in Grunt. My TwinCam certainly isn't :aidan

Go for the 1200gsa triple black,
I just bought my one this week and it runs like a dream !
I had previously my much loved 1150gsa witch I do regret selling it off but now that I have the 1200 I do think I prefer the it the best so :thumb up for 1200GSA TRIPLE BLACK
