I’m in a dilemma. When should I sell it?
06 GSA with 51,000 miles on the clock, nice and tidy but used all year round and every day. Full service history up to 12,000 miles! Then odd BMW service chucked in (me minor and them the major ones). Well out of warranty.
Great bike and pulls like a train with no problems at all. Akropovic exhaust and full racking for BMW panniers and top box
So do I put it up for sale now and get me an 08 or keep it for another 18 months or so, take it to 100,000 miles then get a 2010 model?
Either taking my chances and replacing anything that pops or splash out a filthy amount of money now for a new one. The later is not attracting me as so many of you seem to have issues with your 08. Tempted to wait until they are all ironed out. Should I chance expenditure on parts over the 18 months or £12,000 for a new one? ......almost a no brainer I suppose.
Also not sure what my 06 is worth. Not a lot I’m sure.
Thanks in advance of your views.......:thumb2

you seem to have one of the good ones with no faults... why play Russian roulette and buy a new one if the old one works and works well:)

After some of the doom and gloom threads that have popped up recently, nice to read of a youngish 1200 with some good, reliable miles on it. Stick with it if you're happy and go for the 100k :D:D

I would buy a spare fuel pump controller and EWS ring antenna and carry them with you on the bike (plus the required Torx screwdriver) and keep riding to the 100,000 mile mark.

I share your dilemma, I keep dreaming of getting a 1200Adv but my 2004 bike with all the farkles only has 31k on it and still rides/looks as good as the day I bought it (if not better). I can't justify the expense just for spoked wheels and a bigger fuel tank (don't need the suspension travel I'm a shortarse anyway). For the trade-up cost I could get myself a tidy low-mileage used 2004/5 R1 as a second bike.

Mmmmmmmmm not so sure about keeping it......... . If you do you could get some properly large bills over the next 2 years + you will barely be able to give the thing away once its got 100k on it ?

However, if you buy new you would be looking about a whopping £2k ish a year in depreciation BUT with all non consumable hiccups covered by warranty.

Thank god I havent go that dilemma :D

I reckon you could break it for parts at 100k the rate you are going and make money, there aren't many being broken and there are plenty of 1200 Owners who would like the Adv parts.

How much for the spokes/fuel tank/screen??:D

Hey that's a good plan. Could start slowly selling bits off now:D

Might put my body parts up for sale as well........any offers or needs anyone:augie?

keep it, with the prices dealers are asking to change and the present millage on yours you would get very little for yours,
if you have got this far and nothing has gone wrong there is a good chance nothing major will break :hide

Don't be logical

"I can't justify the expense just for ......" No; and you never will be able to justify the expense of running a BM. If you ever start to think logically, particularly in the UK, you will buy a scooter and a railway season ticket; I have just replaced my near perfect 2004 1200GS with.....another new one!

Keep it, I'm on 37k and the ride just keeps on getting better and better. I'll be on 50K the end of the year. 06 1200gsa

Cheers
