Despite riding slowly, I was always a little way ahead so waited at a junction deep in the woods for her to catch up.

The last couple of miles had been tricky, 30 seconds passed before I turned my engine off to listen for her's.

There can be few sounds so sobering as that of your wife's scream from a forest in central Normandy. This from a woman who doesn't do screaming.

It didn't take long to cover that quarter of a mile on my 550 Husaberg.

Throwing my down my bike I found her down a bank and tangled in the undergrowth, legs trapped at a scary angle under the right hand side of her bike, back arched as the side stand caught her left ruck sack strap almost choking her.

Fuel was pouring from the tank overflow as I asked where she hurt, I untangled her and as each wrenched knee came free I breathed a huge sigh of relief.

Spot her rear wheel on the left.

Ummmmmmmm........

Rosy sometimes mentions from time to time about doing her licence and getting a little off road bike. She's pretty good on a mountain bike (she's got balls!!) and as an ex three day eventer is very good at just throwing her heart into things like this. I'm sure she'd pick it up really quickly.

But ... feck me would I worry! I know myself those refusals, those tight arms aaaaarrrggghhhhhh straight on into the ditch moments :blast :D.

Must have made yer blood run cold for a moment or two there! Hope she puts it all behind her and it doesn't have a knock in her confidence ... :thumb2

I hope that in keeping with tradition that photo was taken before you went to see if she was ok.

There's a time and place for everything, it's difficult for her to divorce me at 2pm on a Sunday in the middle of nowhere:thumb

Yes, it's a tough call.
there has been a steepish drop over some roots and I think shhhhh...the front brake may have been the culprit

Once I'd sorted her out I was faced with the problem of getting her bike out.
There was a fast flowing brook just a few feet below so tied the back of the bike to a tree, cleared some undergrowth and began to spin the bike sideways on.

She must've been feeling ok to have got the camera out herself as I tied the bike up to stop it slipping further where it would have been impossible to get it out alone.

Thirty minutes of sweating later I manage to get the bike into a position where I could just about ride it out.

All this had been towards the end of our trip so took the shortest route to some tarmac and rode back to our tent in Falaise where we both tried not to think what might have been!

It all started in the pissing rain whilst waiting for the ferry to Le Harve.

Get a brew on and watch..........

It wasn't long before Chateau Olgra was set up in St Mere Eglise.

It's times like this, when you stretch your legs, finding the bottom of your sleeping bag wet whilst the rain drips from the roof of the tent onto your head in the sleeping compartment, that you wonder why you left that very expensive Hilleberg tent at home and brought this piece of cheap shite:blast

Well you look quite at home there .... better than on some cardboard under the arches at the embankment .... :D

I won't turn this into another WWII invasion sites report although of course I did want to show Ange these places, but more importantly to ride the 'green lanes' which many must have some stories to tell.

I rode many of these lanes just a couple of months ago with Timpo and there's always more to find.:)

And as on my last trip, was convinced you only need a small bike. In fact later there were a couple of sections which would have been very difficult on a 650 but for the most part the going is easy although slippy in places.

As usual, it's my job to turn her bike around.... apparently that's what boys are for:nenau
