Who has had issues with their 1300 GS/A’s?

Don’t recall that (see what I did there?). Maybe I came Latymer enough to the V4 party (22 plate)

 
The secret is to buy one of the first ( beta tester) before there are any bad reviews. I did that with both 1250 (35000mls) and 1300 (7000mls) and never had a moments bother.:DD(y)
 
I traded in my 1 yr old r1300gs with 15000kms on clock only 1 issue the starter relay
for a new r1300gs ASA that only 7 wks old and it’s been back at dealers 4 times with issues at garage now trying to sort out the ride height issue
Would not recommend the ride height option or the ASA option
 
I’ll keep brief and hopefully get them all in.

Delayed delivery due to starter relay issue (think it had two more changes)
rode home
First ride out it wouldn’t start and was recovered to dealer.
C.5000 miles no issue
Right switch gear failure in France. Had to be left there and recovered.
Rode to Innis
Next ride wouldn’t switch on then did with no lights, indicators, TFT etc.
Rejected.

GS13no.2
Rode home.
First ride out x3 ride height messages. Back to dealer
Recalled for right switch gear replacement and starter relay.
Out last Sunday for a spin and got the adaptive ride height messages twice but cleared by switching on off.
Only 1100 miles on this one so feeling confident it will….

I have a deja vu reading this. 1st and 2nd 1200GSLC 2013/2014 rejected. 2016 model was fine and the 2019 1250GS was even better. Took 6 years to achieve something that should have worked back in 2013. Now on a 1250RS I shall wait and see how the 1300 will pan out. One thing I did notice, my last 2 are devoid of all electronics: ESA & Co. Only heated grips and cc. I fancy the ASA but they still have problems.
Apparently it took 6 years to develop the 1300….

How many multistradas were sold in that time - answer I suspect is not very many.

My GS has had a few small things in 14 months but I wouldn't want to part with it, I would miss it, it is engaging to ride one of the best bikes I have ever had in 37 years riding and does indeed go and handle like stink, she is not an old bus quite the opposite it drops into corners and you can lean it right over with no effort, and for me I find very comfortable and more than big enough for a 6'2 frame to allow all day riding in comfort with no wind buffeting and decent leg comfort (how great is it to have a bike with a screen that just works perfect out of the crate). I haven't got the suspension lowering feature as I dont need or want it and I dont carry a pillion. I plug an optimate into it when not in use.

If I had had constant problems with suspension and warning lights I might feel different but the truth is I have not.

The bike’s biggest problems seem to affect those who don’t own one, judging by this thread. :nenau

And the story was probably the same for the very first 1100 all those years ago when Fred Flintstone bought his very first GS… :D

They were quality! I loved mine.

If we think only around ten 13”s are affected I’ve been really unlucky!

1300GS - 12 months - no issues for me.
But I am very disappointed on behalf those owners that have had constant problems - that sucks at this price point.

The fiasco with the luggage must have been a disaster for head office.
I'd ordered the full set but when nothing arrived I quickly bailed out and went elsewhere.

Recalls and check-ups don't particularly bother me providing it's not interfering with the enjoyment of the bike - which in my case it hasn't.
A round trip to my dealer is 130 miles and realistically involves a whole day at least; so if I was doing that once a month for electronic issues I'd be getting hot under the collar.

On the basis that the riders with big significant problems are by far in the minority (my assumption) - I think BMW should to be offering those few people much more than just roadside assist and free coffee. Free Easter treats all round?

In fairness my dealer is superb and if it wasn’t for them I’d have left the brand last year.

(Current topic aside) the 1300 is a huge step forward in all aspects compared to the 1250 which I ran for 3 problem free years.

Having to leave my first one in France and fly home is about as big a failure as you can get. Luckily it was the last day of my France tour, might have torched it if it was my first day!

Hold on a mo. The ASA is a GAME CHANGER. I read it ‘ere !

So apart from the ASA being shite, the ride height issue still not fixed after 4 visits to the stealership (natch), are you pleased with the new steed ? 🤔
 
Yet Bods still happy to part with a decent wedge in exchange for one …. ahem … occasionally with a missing key or missing (for months) luggage that they have paid for upfront and be a guinea pig for the privilege to boot 🤪
Some are even happy to part with an additional £600-£700-£800 a year to insure it, compared to £300-£400 to insure their perfectly good and functioning two/three year old 1250.

Would it be rude to say - Enjoy your new bike Grant!? 😬
Everything you say makes sense but I rode one for six long days in Romania (Having ordered a 1250) and it completely changed my mind. If I was still earning 'Nazi Gold' I'd have one in the garage. Just because I can. And I liked it. A lot. :) :)
