yesterday i pulled into my drive and got off the bike without putting the stand down - 1st time in 20 years of riding

am i safe? do i need an advanced course? am i just old (48)?

confused of norfolk

ps - i used to have a KTM Adv, I know now which is heavier

Strange .... I'm 48 and on a couple of occasions recently I've found myself attempting the same method of self-inflicted damage. Fortunately my brain's reconnected at the last moment!

Wow that sounds worrying :)
Get a reminder sticker or something :) don't forget the brakes next :D:D

Better than being 19 and leaving the stand down as you scream off!

Were you mentally preoccupied at the time by a major issue to you, were you fatigued, were you hypothermic and frozen to the bike.... or just careless :nenau

It depends if you did it with style....

I turned up a little late to lead a rideout, got off my bike walked away and turned around to see it crash to the floor with a large round of applause from the assembled riders :1/10 :D

Did exactly the same thing with an old iron head harley that I had. needed help to get it back upright.

Do it every time you get off, that way people won't think you forgot.

I never put the stand down. Firm grip on the brake lever, get off, then I hoik it onto the centre stand. If the camber or slope is against me, put into gear, roll it solid and then sidestand. When you're as short as me you don't balls-up the dismount.

Worries

Flog it quick before disaster happens (and you get a double hernia picking the bloody thing up!). When you pull up put the prop stand down with the engine running, this will then stop and your home and dry. Do it and you'll soon do it automaticly.

As long as you arrived at the right address it's not too bad. Start worrying when you can't remember where you live!:)

At least you were on your own . I came back from a fortnight touring Europe, got off the ferry and went to meet a female biker friend I hadnt seen for a while . She was waiting at an outdoor cafe that was packed. I tore up . stopped , hopped of GSA and forgot to leave it in gear. Rolled off the side stand and over on me !!

Its going back a while now, but I did the same thing with my GPZ1100 at the time. In a bit of rush - got to be somewhere. Got off the bike with the motor running to shut the garage door. I ended up trapped underneath the bloody thing as it was only a couple of foot from my garden wall. Had to shout for help from my neighbour to lift it off me. Now thats embarrasing !! I was about 36 at the time.

I did a similar thing outside Dockgate 20 (Harley dealership Southampton) on my tooled up GSA, the place was full of mean looking burger scoffing Harley riders, the applause was deafening but with sympathy!

Twice I've done that outside Vines, gone inside for an hour or so and left the bike on it's sidestand, in gear, key in ignition and ignition on.

Then it's a race between a flat battery and joyrider

Ok , I agree it's a pain getting old - but think of the alternative !

(I'm 62 and getting stupider by the minute)
