Got my XCountry back home, in van as wanted to check it over before riding far.

Seems that the handlebar end weights have been removed at some point, probably to allow the fitting of aftermarket heated grips. On my 08 XCountry I had Touratech hand guards, which look rather like rebranded Barkbusters.

What handguards fit well on an ABS 07 model?

Also the fuel warning light is apparently not working, comes on with the ignition but apparently not when the fuel is low. Is this a standard quirk and what's the fix?

Got a lowered Hagon shock on, not sure what they're like, any thoughts?

I may be wrong but I think there is a thread about fuel warning light relays. Not sure if this will fix your issue

fuel light

no help here but does the same on my xchallenge, did find the thread on here but doesn't help much, I did take the fuel pump out to check for a loose connection but all ok, the low level sensor looks easy enough to replace (coming from a guy with no mechanical knowledge :augie ) so this may be an option.

some people suggest checking with a multimeter ? but I wouldn't know where to start.

at the moment I just put up with it and use the trip.

would love experience from someone who's sorted this. :thumb2

I have the Barkbusters fitted, complete with bar end weights, although Barkbusters suggest their removal. Look good and do a great job.

No similarity between Barkbusters and Touratech at all :nenau

Thought they looked similar, will order up some Barkbusters then, thanks.

I'd look at the barkbusters or Cycra brush gaurds. Fitting the Acerbis rally guards will require cutting the ball off the end of the lever to make them fit.

Fitting the Barkbusters without the bar end weights would have meant the end of the levers would be very close to the hand guards, if not touching.

I machined a small amount off the end of the bar weights so that the diameter was then the same as the Barbusters mounting. I might have had to find longer bolts but much neater and plenty of clearance at the end of the levers :thumb

There was enough leeway at the inboard fitting end to compensate.

I have Touratech hand guards, and these do not fit with the bar ends weights fitted as the levers foul the inside of the guards.
I wanted bar ends so bought a pair of Wounderlick adjustable brake levers and this solved the problem.
