but hopefully effective.

Managed to get a set of Vern's panniers a while back and not used them in anger yet & with a wee trip to France/Belgium planned next week I was mindful of stories of melting inner bags etc. I did notice that the pannier/frames were blackened but not too bad and not having an extension for the Remus thought I'd fashion a little deflector to see if that helps.

In short I got a thin piece of tin from my local DIY'ists and made a cardboard template first to get the shape about right. Then using the hole for the baffle and a big jubilee clip secured it round the can exit hole, see pics below. With the panniers on it's barely visible, let's hope it works! I don't to go melting my duty free:cool:

I think thats its disgraceful that the panniers should be manufactured so shoddily that the finish is destroyed by exhaust gasses.
I would return them under warranty and insist they be coated with superdoopium which would have prevented this in the first place.

Yes, quite. I think I've a tin of that somewhere.;)

why?

Shouldn't the dome nut that holds your pannier to the bracket be on the INSIDE?? :augie

What difference would that make? The other end has an allen key head so neither is that difficult to undo if you are thinking 'easy to nick'.
