► Lights, indicators, electrics and alarm

Well, my HID50's are now on. Hucking Fell they're bright

As stated above, everything just kinda fits - I used the industrial strength 3M velcro stuff to affix the ballasts to the inside of the fairing. I can't pull them off again but will check this regularly.

Only one slight concern is the brake and clutch pipes/cables brush against the new wires on medium to full lock. This is because the new rubber grommets and wires going into the light housing extend further back. Any attempt to route the wires away from the pipes I felt put too much bend on them and didn't "feel right" in the natural lay of the wires.

Plan B is to lightly apply some form of lubricant where they brush together - anyone suggest one that wont corrode the brake/cable work?

I had the same problem until I fitted the TT 20mm risers which immediately cured the problem and gave me better control at the same time. I fitted the risers to have better control when standing up and solved this issue by chance :bounce1

put a cable tie around the brake and clutch cables. i fitted my HID's in April last year and cable tied the cables loosely to prevent this - no problems whatsoever.

Did anyone solve the auxiliary light mount problem?

I already have Les Wassall's fabulous HID50 dip/main conversion on my F650GS and now I want to mount auxiliary lights. These will primarily be for presence so that oncoming trucks in Africa and elsewhere understand that I'm NOT a moped.

So I'm looking for how to mount them at roughly the same height or slightly lower than the headlight. I briefly considered mounting on the engine bars but that's too low.

The other consideration is that ordinary bulbs will now look distinctly yellow compared to the pure white of the HIDs. So perhaps a bulb with a blue/white effect could be used, or blue LED lights though I'm concerned about the legality.

Ideas welcome!

Tim

Unfortunately the indicators are in this area on the F650GS.

Though if I was able to bend the bar through two 90-degree turns on each side to raise it above the indicators it might work.

Thanks for the pix.

Tim, my brother Dave is currently in production of light bars for several GS models. He made mine for my 800 and I know he has done 1100, 1150, and 1200 brackets but not sure about 650 model. Here is a close up of my light mounting brackets

What I will say is he uses aircraft grade alluminium (which is very strong and light weight) and top grade stainless fittings.

Have a look in Vendors section, his username is How Much

Interesting setup, but I have handlebar muffs on for four months each year.

Bobalobs's brother's lightbar might fit, so I've PM'd him. But still interested in any other suggestions :)

Tim, i have the adventure spec crash bars, ill be mounting mine directly to the brace between the crash bars, i dont think i want them up near the head light.

cheers.

800 gs light bars?

Could you please send me info on how to contact "Buy Me" to get a price on the brackets for my 800 GS?

Thank you!

i am waiting for the new wunderlich offerings to come out here...they look great and don't seem to be too pricey.

nippy normans are selling them now. Although the led's under the lights is an extra €69.

Check ebay and specifically Hong Kong for some interesting LED setups. I bought some strobe/hazard lights and they do the trick.

I've heard from How Much and he's making another batch and will let me have a set to look at. I checked out the differences between the F650 and F800 and I reckon it will work so long as the auxilliary lights are mounted under the light bar as shown in Bobalob's pic.

Apologies....

...to all the motorists on the A614 in Nottinghamshire that I blinded tonight

First ride out with my HID50's and I'd set the headlight angle back where it was with the original bulbs - it needs to be pointed down quite a bit further :blast

Apologies also to the drivers of Leicestershire, Lincs, Derbyshire and Northants who were also probably dazzled - and to the 3 aircraft bound for East Midlands that landed alongside me. I think the International Space station also received a power boost on its solar panels.

And most of all to my wife in the car I was following who when she arrived home nearly drove into the garage door due to the blindness :yikes

Sorry :nenau

I talked to Les about this, and at least for how I routed the wires - I didn't mind bending them a tad - making sure the headlight unit is slid forward in their "tracks" as far forward as possible pretty much fixed the problem.

And lordy yes, those suckers are bright. Added those and the Touratech fog light pair and now ... well, the attack helicopter look and feel keeps getting better and better.
