1100gs tickover

Well, why didn't you call it a Cat Code Plug? Then I would have understood. All these anacronisms and blooming jargon, I don't know we'll be speaking banter next.

I also have an idle problem.

My 1100GS has recently developed an idling problem and no amount of fiddling with the idle screws, cleaning the throttle bodies or changing the air filter, spark plugs has helped. The problem seems to have started suddenly as it was running fine for ages. I've been reading through this post looking for inspiration.

My bike doesn't seem to have a ccp in the fusebox but I'm not sure so I've attached a photo of the fuse box here:

Can someone confirm?

The bike is a '95 from Europe, it has the cross-over cables for the throttle and a standard can on it, which I got secondhand from Richie (I think he had a UK bike?) I'm pretty sure the bike doesn't have a cat on it but I'm not absolutely certain.

The throttle cables seem to have slack in the such that they touch the stop and the bike seems to run ok other than at idle where it conks out regularly at the traffic lights.

I can see talk of Lambda and CO sensors but I'm not sure how to check that (I presume only the bikes fitted with a cat have the Lambda sensor? What about the CO is that also the case?)

Also someone mentioned here that a faulty Hall Sensor can cause problems, is that so and how could I check it?

The next thing I was going to do was a compression test but I need to buy the tool for that so I wanted to check other things first.

Any input is appreciated.

Check the mixture and adjust using the Co pot.

If you don't know what i'm talking about take it to someone who does.

is the proper way to do it after checking valve clearence, syncing, warming it up to 5 bars then reading exhaust with a CO meter and fiddling the screw until specs in manual?

Thanks.

I don't really want to take the bike to the dealer as I have had LOADS of problems with them not doing work properly and overcharging for this that and the other. Hence I'd still rather try and fix it myself if possible (dealer as an absolute last resort). If I need to buy or borrow a tool to investigate further I'd be grateful if you share what that might be so that I can look into it.

Thanks for any help

Your bike will have either a CO pot or a lambda sensor, if theres a CO pot it will be on the right hand side of the bike behind a small round hole in the rear mudguard trim near the passenger footrest looking vertically upwards, even if you dont have the pot you will have the hole, CO meters are a fairly common tool in car garages, though they might be a little outdated now, I borrowed a Gunsons one and it worked well for me, I recently fettled a bike which had its TPS (throttle position sensor) disturbed, an ordinary multimeter can be used to check this. from the picture your bike does not have a cat code plug installed.

Interestingly enough, I just replaced the throttle cable on the bike and this seems to have made quite a difference. There is still a bit of a problem idling from cold, but when the engine has warmed up, it seems to run fine.

I'm going to tweak the choke cable and play around with the twin-max a bit to see if I can improve it further.

Thanks for the help in any case.
