Other way round - both the S (more road orientated version with 19" front wheel) and the R (more off road orientated version with 21" front wheel) have 160 BHP at the crank. The R can have a map downloaded to use in conjunction with full on knobbley tyres which I believe restricts max speed to 140mph or something like that.
They are tuned down from the Super Duke 1290R and GT (173 I think)

It's all bollocks anyway.
People will ride what they want to.Personally I can't really see the point anymore in 150+ bhp in an 'adventure style' bike.
Even if the brakes and suspension are a match, the riding position won't be,and unless you have a forward lean and clip ons, then it's bloody hard to hang on to such surplus amounts of power.
If I want to go fast then I'll nip to Germany on the H2 SX. (or of course Mexico, where the police let you do anything......allegedly.....according to Bolloxnuts :blast)
Having tried all of the contenders and owned a few,for me, my favourite by far is the new Africa Twin Adventure Sports.
I much prefer the overall 'togetherness' of the bike. The engine is very torquey despite being down around 95-100 bhp.It has more than enough poke, even two up with luggage.Ok,you might have to drop down into 4th for a quick overtake, but that only makes it more fun with the DCT box.But the engine/handling/braking and suspension all compliment each other.
And others bang on about chain drive and tubed tyres. So what ? It takes less than 30 minutes with a modern chain cleaner like SDoc to clean and re-lube from scratch.Tubed tyres ? Couldn't care less-not had a puncture on the road in 40 years of riding.
And I much prefer the feeling of 21/18 wheels to 17 inchers. So what if it's no good on track.I don't believe that was the primary use intended when they designed the GS and the like.

I think BMW should concentrate on improving their bikes build quality rather than chase power-they'll still be way down on the market leaders anyway. The 3 year warranty is a good step though.

But we all like different things. Some of us even eat fake bacon for a treat !!! So fill your boots,Bolloxnuts.I'm sure the 1250GS will be just perfect for you,but we don't all want the same thing.

The map's already on my 1190R if we're talking about the same thing and is switchable from the bars (along with the other ride modes)?

It limits the lump to WC power (100bhp) ;) and has specific settings for TC and ABS (eg it disables ABS on the back wheel as well as allowing the back to spin up a bit) ~ what that means in practice is that coupled with the lean sensitive TC/ABS you can give it a handful in a berm and look like a riding god on 1/4 tonne of motorbike with roost flying everywhere. In reality you are of course shitting yourself and it's the electronics are doing it all for you :D

Nope different things - the map you can have on the 1290R just limits top speed - and does not affect power. All the different power modes are still there.

Anyone else tried a Can-am Spyder? You can keep yer two wheelers......:D

Got a mate who has one, there were two of them when we went to the Black Forest last year, serious bit of kit. No good for filtering though and takes a little bit of time to master, but enjoyed my go :)

Some guys here are f@cking clueless;
You can manipulate dynos and if a LC made 113 hp after it got hilltopped you paid money for nothing !
On the same dyno my R1100S made 87 rwhp.
R1200S 109 rwhp
2016 R9T 102 rwhp
2017 R1200GS 117 rwhp
Shaftdrive on a boxer looses less power than a chain because the power is transmitted straight to the driveshaft without another 90 degree geardrive;less than 10% loss while a chain especially if worn or dry can loose 12% between clutch and rear wheel.
These are facts !
So BMW definitely would not go through all the hassle, added cost and complexity of new VVL or VVT heads to end up with 4 hp more !

140NM TORQUE is great and more than enough but I still hope we also see the same in hp at minimum which translates to 130 rwhp...:beerjug:
So maybe the dealer was right quoting 129hp at the rear wheel...:thumby:
As a 1290 Superadventure has really 150 and not 160 at the crank at around 135 at the rear wheel.
BMW is always very conservative with hp numbers as the Japanese, italians and austrians advertise more than they actually have...

Keep taking the Coolaid - think it's best we leave you in your little bubble :comfort

Paul the truth hurts ! Facts not koolaid my friend ! A LC makes 115 hp at the rear wheel while the last aircooled units make 100 hp at the rear wheel. If not there is something wrong with the bike. And if Hilltop dyno shows 103 before and 113 after you got played ! That's all I will say to that matter.

And Arsey as a Honda A-T rider why do you surround yourself with all these BMW riders who don't understand your Honda anyways where engine/handling/braking/suspension "compliment" each other...LOL You are right on this one.
The new Afreeka Tween must be really the most boring bike I have ridden in the last year ! I don't know if it was the slow engine making around 87 rwhp,or the slow and lazy steering with 21 inch front-wheel and only scary small 90/90 contact patch or the soft wallowy suspension ? But for sure they all "complimented" each other...LOL
And tubed wheels for all that money in 2018,that all tops it off...:thumb I hope you always have a tube and tire iron with you when you pick up a nail in your heavy & slow steering tubed wheels...
And yes 150 hp is enough not to get bored for riding on the road while 200 hp is enough to have fun and not get bored on the track !

Engineer if your LC after running in properly makes 135 rwhp the dyno operator lied to you as much as Hilltops making 103 hp before the ECU flash...Like I said good ones make 118 hp max at the rear wheel and with Akra and Rexxer you can get 135 hp max but at the crank which probably translates to 123 hp at the rear wheel...which the old aircooled units in the 2008 HP2-S made.
I guess it is safe to say that the 2019 GS will make as much power as the highest hp aircooled twin ever made...:thumb
I still hope for 140hp/nm at least...

Thanks for the info , we all prefere different things and on the chassis it’s a bit like marmite both ways.
I just can’t find the feel with the chassis on the Ktm , good as the motor was I just could not connect the two . The bm for me just jells , and with more power will be great . I don’t think it needs the 1290 s figures as the engines in character are so different .
I ride at the top of the range and feel that with the extra we may be offered I can have the power you may sometimes yearn for .
Again thanks for the info as when I posted I though I was gonna get shot at lol

Out of interest, how many miles did you do on “your” 1290S before you got rid of it?

i must be very odd, after doing some laps of thruxton and that ring place in that there germany the only thing i would want from the new gs is better brakes ?, preparing for incoming:D

Really? I found the brakes on my LC GS much better than the KTM, until I realised that the linked bias on the GS is better. Using the rear brake manually with the front brake on the KTM resolved the issue.

Beemer needs M50's ..best brakes you can buy without spending silly money

Just as everyone calmed down, and thread was back on topic, you go in and throw more of your bullshit into the thread. Do you actually believe what you're typing, or are you on some kind of wind up?

Enjoy your GS and the next version whatever it turns out to be - I know I enjoyed the 10 GS's I have owned over the years and still enjoy my Scrambler but as they say "The future's bright - the future's Orange" :beerjug:
