Interesting thread. Technology advances and filters to bikes.
People shouting for power that they can’t use........................
So why want more than you can possibly use?
.......................
I pretty much agree with all you've written there but and it's a big BUT, as a general principle more power does bring benefits to ordinary riding be it two up with luggage and effortless overtakes or that odd occasion when you're the only vehicle on the road that stretches to the horizon and you just open her up for the sheer hell of it and scare yourself shitless

My background / love is smaller bikes and in particular Supermotos. Now I can ride faster round the back lanes of Derbyshire on a SM than I can on my 1190R depsite the KTM having three times the horsepower. I'll be wringing the SM's neck and pushing it hard (all part of the fun), the KTM won't even break a sweat (not so much fun) so why don't we all ride around on 120kg bikes with 50bhp?
Again, on main roads and if I'm on my 40 year old Guzzi I get from A to B just as quick as on my 1190R (as long as I'm behaving myself/staying legal) so what's the point of the KTM ?
Do you see where I'm going with this. I agree chasing ultimate bhp isn't the be all and end all and a good example of that is the WC which in an attempt to become a fast bike lost so much that made the twin cam GS such a good bike, it's become neither fish nor foul..............
Bikes aren't supposed to be practical, they are supposed to be fun and that then is when shit like 'the power being enough' goes out the window,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Ramble over
