Having picked up my 2008 GSA from teh dealers on Friday and ridden it home, I have been frustrated by the foul weather over Saturday as I was eager to get to know the bike better.

So I woke up this morning to cold and wind but dry(ish) roads and decided to get some miles in before the violent weather forecast for this afternoon.

I spent some time getting the bike on and off its centre stand and generaly walkig it around to get used to teh balance and weight - so different from the low-slung sports bikes I have been used to.

Then it was up in the saddle, start the engine, snick into 1st gear........I said snick it into 1st gear...........ah. The gearbox seemed reluctant to go into 1st. I tried the old trick of clutch in and out in neutral, and eventually 1st engages.

So is this a cold-start problem or just a peculiarity of the bike because everything is fine when warm?

Cheers all.

This is a characteristic of the GS's I have the same problem..... the trick is to not fully engage the clutch lever then just tap down for 1st, works for me every time... enjoy the GSA:aidan:aidan

Nobody in here will give a feck, as to them it's too plasticky for a real GS

Thread moved to the 1200 section Oldrascal, you may have better luck with your query in here. :thumb2

I think they all do that sir, suggest you keep your boot on the gear lever as you let the clutch out and it will drop into place fine...

Yep - typically happens on a cold start. Should be fine after that. Try the clutch trick or move the bike a few inches.

1st Gear Query

It's not a problem unique to Beemers - I've experienced it on many other bikes, including Japanese, so I don't consider it a big deal, just "a feature". Certainly not a showstopper........

As the gearbox was originally designed for a panzer what do you expect :ronno:ronno:ronno

My 2008 GSA is the same, clutch out then back in normally does the trick
