I have a dilemma, my TE will be 3 years old in April and will have done about 34,000 miles - there is no finance or PCP on it, it’s all mine - do I get a new 2018 bike if I can get a good deal or do I hang on until April 2019 by which time the bike will have done about 47,000 miles and have a lower value?

its prob dropped as much as its going to, it will be just classed as a high mileage bike no matter if 34k or 47k in my opinion

If you can afford it, buy a nice shiny new bike..

If it will put you in debt, and you don't really need it. Stick with what you have.

I'd hang on to it unless you decide to trade in, though I doubt a dealer will want it so will penalise the TIV.

When I got mine there was a 14 plate with 18K there, I had the newer, lower mileage one, the older one sat there another 6 months, it's disapeared off the website now so assume its sold.

I think there is a reluctance to spend cash on GS's around 3 years old due to the perceived reliablity issues and relatively high cost it certainly crossed my mind....better to depreciate it further if your going for a private sale as assume the warranty will have expired?

I'll be running mine into the ground as its the only way to extract any kind of value from a bike thats way overpriced.

Sell it for what you can get for it............. (which will make you weep, I suspect).

I agree with Warlord unless money is no option I’d stick with what you’ve got. This is what I’ve seen with three biking buds of mine two are constantly changing bikes ( they are retired professionals with loaded pensions) one of the other two is a working farmer who like me bought an older TCam Well there are two of us who enjoy what we have and two who are always looking around that mythical bend in the river for something new and never (well seem to be) happy with what they have got. But there again we are all different and my friend and myselfs contentment is maybe because we’ve always had bikes from aeons ago. Oh none of them appart from me are forum savvy so I can tell it as it is.
Good luck on your decision.

Seadog miss-placed word, meant computer savvy they don’t indulge in forums, not sure why cause we are all friendly and considerate. Aren’t we?

I would trade in the bike, I always have done and at the same dealer -I guess what I am saying is should I change in April 2018 or wait for the ‘new big upgrade’ in 2019?

Buy a Suzuki and piss off to another forum ? :P

I seem to always get your irritated attention these days, that makes me very happy :D thanks for your advice, but I already have a Triumph as well as the BMW.

If you want to lose another fight get back to the pub forum :D this is not the place for it.

Another year another hike in prices and the gap widens between the new bike and your current bike....so in that regard it would make sense, but then if you bet a 2018 model then they do a big upgrade...then price hit is bigger....so your theorectically damned either way.

The extact date of this update in 2019 is not know exactly is it...so could be begining could be end...you may be waiting a long time...nearly 5 years for an upgrade?

If your going to upgrade then make it worth it.

On balance I'd say wait.

As you say damned either way, hence the title of my thread :) I guess it comes down to how good a deal I can get in April 2018, if it is very good then I’d go for it, otherwise I’d wait until 2019 BUT waiting another year means it will eventually cost me more to upgrade - off course I could consider getting something other than a BMW but what would do everything that a GS does????.

Don't worry about the money as it is bike money and doesn't count.
Get a new one, the gearbox is much better.
If you want to keep your existing bike get it hilltopped.
I know you are not a fan, however since the bike is out of warranty and the insurance companies seem not to penalise you give it a go.
the latest suspension is worse in my opinion, so, when yours pack in get after market and have a better bike (apart from the gearbox).

Right off the top of my head and not thought through but another option might be to do both, particularly if you wanted to get rid of yours now for some reason. BM currently have a 0% finance deal on PCP's. Take out a two year PCP now then upgrade to the new model in 2019 with either a PCP or outright purchase.... Just a thought..

FWIW my GSA TE was coming up for 3yrs old this month, 18k miles, tyres fecked, so I reckoned with the MOT, 18K service and a set of tyres I would be spending around £650-£700 anyway just keeping the bike.
I wanted a 2017 GSA for the better gearbox, TE spec and the only must have was gear shift pro, just traded my bike with full luggage for a Feb17 GSA TE , 2kmiles, Gear shift pro, alarm and brand new set of luggage, 2yr warranty and breakdown, full tank fuel, 12mths rfl cost to change £3750. I'm happy but then I never order new bikes always a demonstrator or a pre reg.
I wasnt bothered about getting a TFT screen btw.
Hope this helps

Your gearbox is perfect, I really struggle to see why you would want to change. Just done the 190000 service ( 10 years old ) on the Lexus hybrid + MOT, nothing wrong. So I will keep the car for an other year. Aperantly is worth £2000 as a part exchange, had it from new. If I get a big ticket bill the car gets scrapped.:thumb2
