I am off again. Tomorrow. Just beginning to do my packing now, then tomorrow I'll scuttle over to Ashford to meet the rest of the group for dinner and drinks followed by an early doors train under the Channel first thing on Monday morning.
I am leading a group of 12 bikes (all Harleys, so it will be orange vest time again) and we will go and enjoy some of the best roads the area has to offer. There will be hairpins, twisties, small mountains, lakes, trees, views, beer and food. And weather of some sort.
Day one will be a mainly motorway blat down to Verdun. Day two a more scenic run to Villingen-Schwenningen where we will stay three nights in the lovely Central Hotel (I stayed there last year and really enjoyed it).
We'll do a Westerly Black Forest loop one day, doing some of the highest points of the area such as Kandel mountain and having lunch at the Schauinisland cable car top station (i.e. hunting hairpins), then take in the lakes at Schlussee and Titisee.
The next day will be a trip down to Constance, partially around the lake, partially across it on the ferry and lunch at the famous Konzil restaurant. Probably a stop at the HD dealership in Tutlingen.
Then, back northwards via the B500. Actually avoiding the B500 wherever possible, but rather following it's general direction and looping off east and west of it on some much better roads before ending up in Sankt-Ingbert at the Fawlty-Towers-esque Alfa Hotel.
Then over to Mons, stopping in Dinant for lunch. A meet up with the local Mons Chapter folk for dinner and lots of Belgian beer.
Finally, back to the tunnel via Westvleteren where hopefully the Monks will sell us beer, cheese and pate (and lunch) before getting back on the train home.
That's the plan. Hopefully no unscheduled dismounts on this trip. Let's see what happens...
