Hello everybody :)

Just got me a pair of BMW Santiago boots and like them so far! Haven't ride with them yet.
I am wondering of what is exactly the purpose of that metal thing at the tiptoe?

Apart looking like MadMax, I cannot find any reasons (valuable) for those... but I can find few reasons why not having it.

1/ If you don't pay attention while putting your foot on the peg, you might
scratch the engine paint.
2/If you don't raise you're leg high enough up you might scratch/tear
whatever is on you're rear bash plate
3/Sometimes while I manoeuvre the bike I use my tiptoe to go backwards.
You loose that ability with that thing

It's hard to believe that it is there to protect my foot, or the boot itself.
Will those only serve while riding off tarmac
I am about to take them out...

Thank you for you're input, I might (again) learn something :mmmm

Cheers
Bernard

I believe you have answered your own question. :rob

I don’t know the boots but most off-road boots have this and the shin protection, the front wheel can throw up fair sized stones/rocks that smash against this area.

This might not be so simple, Sir (at least for me :P ) as I cannot imagine a stone/rock that could hurt and damage the tickness of the sole on that area. The sole is about 11/2cm thick and it goes (away from the tiptoe) 1 cm also.
Fashion for great outdoors

Thank you for you're input, let's see if someone comes up with another proposition :augie

My Sidi Couriers have them. I find they spark nicely when you get your toes down. It really upsets the power rangers behind :augie :augie :augie...

But YES, they can damage seats, grab handles, supermarket floors etc.

Those metal bits are bollox! :rob

Made me fall over several times as I try to get grip tip toeing on my bike

Sold them and bought HG version without the metal shitty thing.

No Bill .. my bike doesn't have "character" because I dropped it. It's called damaged :(

If you will buy a bike that's too big for you, young Tom:rolleyes:

good boot 100% waterproof. I removed the metal tips as I dont need them to announce my presence as I clatter around. Also I dont have any idea what damage my size 11's do to to the side of a car as I dont hang around to find out. JJH

I suppose if you were to frame the question as "after I free the toes of my Santiago boots from their metallic imprisonment, then what....?" it might qualify as an existential question.

Otherwise......they just are and it serves to differentiate them from the HG Tuareg boots and the TCX Infinity of which they're clones.

I think this is the most likely reason for them. To differentiate from the TCX boots. The metal bits have no useful purpose.

I've had my eye on a pair of these for a while but was a bit worried about forking out £210. Do you think they are worth that amount? :)

I have the Oxtar/TCX Infinity ones and I would certainly buy another pair when these wear out.
I wouldn't pay the extra to get a tiny BMW badge and a metal tip though.

Not Santiago boots, but this is why off-road style boots have a (replaceable) metal toe guard.
