After a testride I think the 1250 is still better than the 1300GS

The last BMW that had the stupid linked to the front integral foot brake was the R1150RT…The R1150RT-P for police only the right lever was linked to front and rear brakes while the foot was only braking the rear…For obvious reasons ! Police do their obstacle courses between cones turning as tight as the steering lock allows holding / balancing the bike between rear brake and friction point on the clutch where applying the front brake would immediately make the bike fall over to the inside…Dont do that on your 1300GS because it wont be new and shiny anymore 🤣 Another reason BMW went to wet clutches because the dry clutches got hot and wore performing these tight turning techniques…Stupid that BMW went back to these old mistakes as also less sound , smaller tank , less grunt below 6000 rpm due to longer gearing and shorter stroke and no higher rpm ceiling to take advantage of the shorter stroke / slower piston speed that would allow to make peak power at 9000 instead of 7750 rpm…They have they work cut out until the new GS is ready being a premium product worth the money they are asking for it…And dont do these tight turns on the steering stop boys and girls if you dont want to embarrass yourself until you put it into Enduro Pro to disengage the rear brake from the front 🤣

.But when I am retired I plan to ride more often again and want to finally do the trip to Tierra del Fuego / Ushuaia on hopefully a grunty GS with fun top end and a big enough tank and good sounding exhaust note...LOL All the best !

Waste of time. All you’ll see is this

Arsey is this the reason you wont go to mexico with me…But you are probably right 🤣👍But the invitation still stands as I will be going in november !

I will give ride the 1300 one more time and giver her a second chance...And report if I changed my mind...I doubt it though...With shorter gearing ,more stroke/1400 cc, power all the way to 9000 rpm , 24 l tank and better sound from the exhaust I would have been all over her and sounding like a real fan boy...LOL

They already sold the demo bike but get another one with forged wheels 🛞 and sports ⚽️ suspension coming…So stay tuned if it makes a difference ?! Hopefully by then the plastic hardbags are finally ready for public consumption and we can see if she still wiggles if you give her a hard shagging / the beans if she still gets up to the whopping top speed of 139 mph with bags & top case attached 🤣🏁👍/👎As the jury is still out on this one ! I wished BMW rather made sure the bags stayed attached to the bike instead of giving it light inside…Only win so far is the added go in gears 1-2-3 WOT where the front lifts , otherwise the old 1250 is still as good (handling, brakes) or even better (sound,range,low-mid rpm go,no integral foot brake, slower battery discharge) than the new 1300GS !

Just watched a review of the new M 1000XR. Surely this has to be closer to fulfilling your requirements Boxerlust.
The stuff you talk of just doesn’t seem “GS” to me.

This reads like something that the bodice-ripper author, Jackie Collins wrote before she died in 2015! I bet Boxertwats cums in his pants every time he dreams of actually riding a motorcycle!

I would buy the M/XR if it had boxes and centerstand on the options list but I thought the new 1300 would do the trick combining almost as much top end of the regular XR with the fat creamy Torque of the 1250 and while the power in the first 3 gears is more than plenty , the shorter stroke and taller gearing , made the 1300 feel actually not more but slightly less fun than the 1250…And I am sure especially when you do GS things like I dont like low to mid rpm crawls through dirt where longer stroke and shorter gearing are a plus…If the new ones powerband would have pulled all the way until 9000 rpm and would not have quit before 8000 rpm I could have lived with the shifted powerband but like it is for some reason the old one felt stronger up to 6000rpm…And sounded better 👍And I could make tight U-turns on rear brake and clutch without falling over and got 2 liters more in the tank 🤣

Lots of warnings in that extract making the rider aware of the limitations of ABS which perhaps Boxerlust should be aware of before he wacks the brakes on whilst making a feet up U turn. Surely braking with either brake on any bike whilst doing a full lock low speed manoeuvre would lead to losing your balance.
Not true ! You balance the bike between rear brake and clutch…A technique the police uses for their slow speed maneuvers…Unfortunately not doable with the integral as in linked to the front foot brake ! Case closed , wonder why BMW choose this way as the 1250GS system was perfect except 320 mm rotors would be beneficial for hard road riding as they can take more heat compared to the 305 mm rotors if you really use the brakes hard ! But otherwise even the 310mm rotors , different calipers and 3 kilos less weight did not decrease the stopping distance on the 1300 vs 1250 GS…

This Aussie made a few very good points ! Less soul , less punch...More stroke , 1400 cc...!
He must have read this thread...LOL

Click bait shite
Not at all because after 16.20 he brought up some valid points about the engine characteristic ! Not as precise as I would say calling the 1300 a sport motor...Due to shorter stroker and taller gearing it feels less powerful through the rev range except for above 6000 rpm which would have been fine if at 7800 rpm the power would not drop off already and the thrust was already over...Kind of reminded me of the R1200S that made less power than the GS except between 6 and 8000 rpm...As for handling ,braking and high speed stability like I said bags that cant come off are not available as we speak and the demo with the lighter forged wheels has still to be broken in But like the bloke from OZ rightfully said more stroke to get the GS-ADV to 1400 cc would help...!!! AS for the leaky shaft he must have been talking about his own as Both 1250 and 1300 shafts run dry...LOL

Stat's aside, I knew within a mile that the R13GS was not an improvement for what I wanted out of a GS. It may however be an improvement in technological advancements if that's your thing, but if it's speed and a dynamic ride someone wants then as said above, surely the new MXR is more the tool. Looks awesome if you want a tall sports bike!
