After a testride I think the 1250 is still better than the 1300GS

Stat's aside, I knew within a mile that the R13GS was not an improvement for what I wanted out of a GS. It may however be an improvement in technological advancements if that's your thing, but if it's speed and a dynamic ride someone wants then as said above, surely the new MXR is more the tool. Looks awesome if you want a tall sports bike!
I kind of hoped the new GS would close the gap to the XR as in sportiness and excitement but except for the rush in the first three gears it really left me cold trading the good sound and feathery punch for no sound and a little more go above 6000 that finds a abrupt end at 7800 rpm as brakes and handling felt the same despite being a real 3 kilos lighter…🤣 Maybe the 2 kilos per wheel lighter forged wheels compared to the spokes make a difference but we will have to try them as also stability at V/max when bags that they attached will be available…So stay tuned as the jury on these points is still out 😉

It’s all academic. The fully farkled Himmy 450 would leave the fat old 1300 trailing in its dust wake.

The technobabble is all well and good, but putting this new 1300GS on the road without a taillight is a no-no for me, and IF an Adv version comes out sans taillight then I will be keeping my GSA for a long long time..........

Depends on the rider but a GS is today a sport-tourer that when you look at price and seize is a bike build for paved roads…If you really go off road there a better tools as in lighter , smaller and cheaper when you throw them into the dirt…That is why BMW should turn into a even more comfortable sport-bike for the road a.k.a. R1400XR with some longer stroke to make it punchier , let it rev another 1000 rpm instead of cutting the power abruptly at 7800 rpm despite having 3 mm less stroke , give it 200 mile range even ridden in anger , de-link the foot brake and put a real taillight on the bike for the price they are charging nowadays…👍🤞Then the threat would be Why the R1400GS/XR is so much better than the old/outdated R1250GS…🤣

Some "mexicans" having fun...You have to keep the 1300 above 6000 rpm but unfortunately at 8000 rpm the party is already over...Top speed 219km/h or 138 mph...Nothing to write home about but still enough to kill the superbikes in this case...A R1250GS would have been just as good and sounding better while doing so...LOL

Una mas por favor...Dont let Stick see it as he will be crying in his porridge...LOL

An englishman on the "Ring with his trusty 1250GS...227km/h or 142 mph...

She sounds so beautiful with the Akra...This time his buddy on a Multi V4 in tow !
I myself did a lot of laps on the Ring in the early 90's...Still young & dumb and full of you know what...LOL

Are you confused about what a GS is? It is a touring 'adventure' Bike. It's not the likes of a KTM 1290SAS, Ducati Multistrada V4, M1000XR. These are sports tourers - not an adventure touring Bike.

If you want power. Go for a Bike with Power - these usually have more than 2 cylinders for a reason......

If you want to go further than 200 miles on a tank ride in a way that is conducive to MPG. If you want to go fast, don't complain you can't get to 200 miles on a tank - you create that problem, not the manufacturer.

An "adventure" touring bike with 139 mile tank range...LOL That is what I saw after I filled the tank up again.I got 4,4 gal into the 1300 while I get 5.2 gal in my 1250 that is actually 2 liters less than 1 liter as BMW says.In conjunction with the lithium-ion battery for a lousy 3 kilos weight savings...Who are they kidding ? And watching the videos obviously the GS is a proper Sports tourer but could be better if it had another 1000 rpm to go instead of cutting off before 8000 rpm and in case of the 1300 more power as in more stroke and 1400 to actually pull the tall gears 4-5-6 !

And here a video for the Adventure crowd to show how stupid the integral as in linked to the front foot brake is...Or can somebody explain why applying the front brakes when using the foot brake is an improvement...LOL

Here is the explanation why a integral foot brake like on the 1300GS is beyond stupid as also in fast road riding when application of rear brake can tighten the turn but not on the 1300 where it applies always the front and hence the bike stands up and runs wide or in case of a U-turn falls over...

I’m going back to my dealer, none of this seems to be working on mine :nenau

Didn’t seem to bother that chap. :D

I’ve never done off-road training, so I just wing it. But one thing that helped me in those slow turns, that I read about, was set the throttle and forget it. Speed is adjusted by feathering the clutch and if you feel the bike falling let more clutch out to stand it up.

Anyway, that chap makes it look easy.

139 mile range? If you're getting less than 8 miles per litre then you're ringing its neck constantly. And if you are then you're on the wrong road for a Bike - add some corners into your trips.

Why does it need more rev's? Look at a Porsche for the sake of engine dynamics. In their 911 GT3 range their 4L flat 6 revs to 9k RPM which gives it a very similar cylinder displacement to the GS. If we then work on the basis of 500BHP from the engine it's a little over the GS by 20% per Cylinder capacity. And that's a high end Sports car.

The GS is not shaped for aerodynamics, top speed or to be a power house. It is designed for Touring. A comfortable, capable long distance touring machine. If you want to do 100mph everywhere and blast to 150mph as quick as you do to 50mph get a sport tourer - there are plenty out there.

There is nothing wrong with the GS in its current or new guise. What you think is wrong because you think it's something it isn't.

Of course it does not bother him because he rides a bike WITHOUT intergral/linked foot brake…🤣

I actually was on a mountain road…Otherwise tank range would have probably been 20mpg or roughly 100 mile range…😑And yes unfortunately there is still lots left to be desired on the new 1300GS..Unfortunately ! Of course a S1000XR would tick all the boxes but I am done fiddling with chains, love Telelever and like the fact that the boxer keeps your legs protected…Would hate to give this up and hoped the new GS would approach the performance of the XR…And watch the videos and you can clearly see the GS is a comfortable sportbike…🤣As far as the 911 GT3 making a tad over 500 hp at 8500 rpm that would translate to 167 hp and about the same nm of torque from a 1350 cc or 1400 cc boxer…👍BMW is close but still no cigar 😉

A mountain road?! It must have been a flat mountain. All the roads on Mountains in Europe have a Corner every few yards.

You want more Power & more fuel range. You know those things are mutually exclusive?! The GT3 comparison was to express how a high end sports car isn't much faster than a GS - which is an adventure touring.

If you know the XR is better, go and buy it and put up with the hassle of a chain, rather than bemoaning the GS for not being an XR.....

Flat mountain…🤣Not at all and plenty of turns 👍I hoped the new GS would close the gap to the XR and like I said gears 1-2-3 plenty of steam but in gears 4-5-6 not enough power for the taller hearing hence the Bennets comparison the 1250 being faster in 6th gear roll-on…Also the XR needs to be kept all the time between 8 and 11500 rpm to go which is not good to keep your license…I am done with chains and love T-L and the cylinders protecting bike and legs when things go wrong…! Otherwise I would have jumped ship long time ago and changed my name…🤣
