hi all,im new to this gs thing, at the moment ive got a pan european 1300 that im considering trading in for a 1200 gs but ive only got 29" inside legs, is this bike too tall for me ? and will the other half be ok, she will be sitting higher up on the pillion than the pan .

Should not be a probem I have a 29" inside leg and ride a 1200GSA, you do have to look where you park it or which side to put your foot down but its no real problem. The GS is lower

Alternatively a factory lowered chassis GS will work and you will get your feet flat!

I have this problem too. Ex ST1300 rider and 29" stumps.

Its taking me a while but I am getting use to it now (GSA). I am however looking at getting the seat re-moddled. Oh and the wife loves it.
I have the ESA suspension and if I forget to change the setting from passenger to rider only when the boss gets off I cant touch the ground

I have a 29" inside leg and ride the factory lowered ('08+) 1200GS with no problems

However from time to time I have also ridden standard height '06 and '08 1200GS models (the seat heights are slightly different between the two) and although I prefer the lowered one because I have to take a little more care about planning stopping , haven't really had any issues.

The BMW factory low seat is a tad on the firm side, after market lowered seats are (allegedly) more comfortable

Hi,

I've just moved upto standard 12GS from 650GS and the height was a serious concern for me being 5' 8" and 29" inseam... but no concern at all.

It is a big tall bike but I find it much lighter or more flickable than the old 650GS, I can't flat foot on both sides but can on the left whilst using right foot on rear brake... no issues just gotta be careful where you stop make sure no potholes...

I fitted aftermarket engine guards just in case of a drop and am on standard seat which I think I'll keep as seems to help as no complaint from my knees on longer trips...

29" Leg

I too have a 29" inside leg length and have little problem with my 2007 GS.
I have fitted a Bmw low seat and another item which reduces the lean of the bike when on side stand.
This the Touratech side stand enlarger with 3 extra alloy plate which makes
over half an inch thicker foot pad thus reducing the lean of the bike on the side stand. See photos.

You should'nt have too much of a problem mate, low seat should be fine. Before you decide on a 12, look at an 1150

A mate of mine 5'6" not fat can ride my 1200 GS - and I saw a bodybuilder mate of mine years ago 5'4" ride my 1150 GS - he was short but dense. He looked a bit worried when it came time to stop but no british casualties. Try one. They are not as imposing as they look.

oh yes - pillion - superb I am relaibluy informed by at least 2 regualr pillions who also ride.

OK 29" inside leg on a 1200GS, I find the BMW low seat perfect for giving that little bit of extra confidence or one of the aftermarket seats. I will be selling my BMW low seat (as new condition) soon so let me know if you are interested. The pillion will love the seating position and better view on the GS.

am i to small

I have a 1200GS with lowered seat and get on fine with the bike. I'm 5' 6'' tall(or is that short) with 28'' legs. You may find that the lowered seat gets hard after about 100miles, but stick with it and things just get better with more miles. May be the arse hardens.

i'm 5.4 and i had wilbers shocks fitted, lowered bike by 5cm and i have a touratech extra low seat and risers...........and i have no worries over ridin my bike with or without a pillion..........go for it you will love it..

Another shortish legged rider here. Standard seat and it's a bit tip toe at times but it's fine.
