am i too small ?

am I too small?

I am 5' 11" with a 29" leg!! yeah long of body!! I too am am thinking of a GS/GSA and have been looking at the forum with the hope that someone would post the question of leg length. :thumb
I am currently riding a CBF 1000 which I do like but I have an issue with cramp after a journey of any distance. :blast
I have a number of mates who swear by their GS' so I thought I would see what the conscious of opinion was. I started on a TS 185 many years ago and loved every minute of it so I have had one eye on the trailie market for some time now but not sure what to choose. :nenau
The Sargent seat seems an option if willing to spend £300. :blast

And another one...I'm 5'8 with 29" leg and have no problem on GS1200.

Only 5 ft tall?! That means my wife at 5'2" could ride a GS. ?Better not tell her.

I recently trailed round some local BMW dealers looking at both 800 & 1200GS models. All three dealers took one look at my height 5'8" and 29" leg and said no way. I asked about trying a low seat and they weren't interested. Really put me off trying to get a GS and I ended up getting another bike instead (with 810mm seat height).
Yes, it would have been my first bike but even so, they just were not helpful in any way.

I still would like to gt a GS at some point, hence the fact I'm still on this site. Maybe one day :(

Did that include Lind? Usually good.

I, of course have huge 30.5" inside legs (although I'm 6'3"). 1200 no problems on high seat setting.

too small? well I have an 1150gs, i have an inside leg measurement of 28inches and weigh 9 stoneish and I can fit my gs:aidan

truth be told she does have carved out one piece adventurer seat. So long as you 'remember' about the weight everthing is fine

Well that would make me about the same size/weight as you. Maybe there's hope for me yet - shame I've just bought another bike! Still maybe two doesn't hurt........:augie

hi all,im new to this gs thing, at the moment ive got a pan european 1300 that im considering trading in for a 1200 gs but ive only got 29" inside legs, is this bike too tall for me ? and will the other half be ok, she will be sitting higher up on the pillion than the pan .
regards spatuk :nenau

Mate i am 5ft 5 tall & a 30 leg. I got refused a test ride on a pan 1300 by Honda at Chelmsford!!

I have ridden the F650GS and all standard no prob I was offered a test ride on the 1250 with lowerd kit, my concern was the weight of the bike so have binned the idea :-( far too heavy for me
If you can handle the weight go for a zoom

mate try cannons @ Braintree it was them that offered me a test on a 1250 lowered

I am5 foot 10 with 29inch inside leg. Boughta standard seat new 1200GS in april but have now dropped it 3 times. It's fine when you are on flat ground but any sudden pull ups on an adverse camber, particularly with a pillion and its a handful. I have bought some weise boots witha 2inch heel (recommended - much cheaper than the dynastar option) and am in the process of buying a sargent low seat. My advice is not to be lulled into a false sense of security because you can get your toes down on a test ride. Its only when things go wrong that you find the bike is too heavy to manage. Buy one with a low seat or budget for it - and get some cylinder head protectors. Still a wonderful bike mind you but don't be fooled it is tall and heavy and you have to manage this issue.

Got a 30 inch inside leg.

No problems on a GS, although climbing on and off can be a bit comical.

When you're on the bike, it's a great place to be.

Haven't even tried a GSA cos they look friggin huge!

I am 5 foot 8 with a 29 inside leg. Just got a 08 GSA but had a Touratech low seat fitted. Can get the balls of both feet on the ground or one flat foot firmly planted and the other on tippy toes.

Done a couple of thousand mile and only one scare when trying to bump onto the pavement and neither foot was within spitting distance of the floor, but a fist full of throttle got me onto level ground and the heart rate reduced quickly.

Been on sports bukes all my life but would not go back now, I just love the view and the comfort

Another 5'8" and 29" leg GSA owner here:thumb2

Do you think we should have a shortarse weekend somewhere:D

I too have a 29" inside leg length and have little problem with my 2007 GS.
I have fitted a Bmw low seat and another item which reduces the lean of the bike when on side stand.
This the Touratech side stand enlarger with 3 extra alloy plate which makes
over half an inch thicker foot pad thus reducing the lean of the bike on the side stand. See photos.

hi i admit it i am short arse as well(29"inside leg ) could you tell me how much from touratech and does it impede your foot or pillions foot at all ??
i have already done a post about having a problem on fully loaded lowered GS on sidestand struggled to get it upright again :blast

Well i'm only 5' 8" and a bit and have a low Sargeant fitted on my 2009 GSA, I think its all about confidence and knowing which leg to plant first depending on ground level. I've found I tend to adopt the motorcross approach and slide to the side of the saddle when stopping to put my leg down. The only real trouble I have is when my wife is getting on the pillion as she takes flipping ages to get her leg over as she is only 5' tall. In fact I think the GSA is easier to handle than the previous GS. I must say I do use the adjustable suspension and tend to run on Comfort as it generally makes the bike softer sit lower.
