I had an e mail from the BT saying I've used over 28 gb out of my allowance of forty per month, I thought so what it's nearly the end of the month anyway. Only been using the same amount as usual
just the usual porn and this place do not play games or download films etc so is thios just a new scheme from BT to frighten people into bying more GB's?. I have been mputting the old computer
(bloody thing) into sleep mode rather than turning off could that have any effect on the amount used?
JUst a thought as I've never had such an e mail before guess it's jujst the latest rip off (or attempted) from BT. Any ideas welcome thanks in advance. It is put in sleep mode as it avoids the occasional boot up probs it's been suffering.:(:(

The usual culprit for high bandwidth utilization is Facetime or skype using a mobile on tablet over your wifi. also youtube and iplayer anything that involves video on demand.

Also BT are kindly letting you know there is higher utilization this month so be careful you may go over your limit. Probably better than going over and hitting you with a massive bill.

I just re read the post to see if any one else responded and thought i ought to mention this regarding your PC

If your pc is struggling to boot try switching off applications at startup type - msconfig in the search window in your stat menu and then hit return.

The msconfig window will appear with 5 tabs - General, Boot, Services, Startup & Tools.

Click the Startup tab and untick all the shite you don't need on startup almost everything bar the operating system and anti virus

Warning make sure the Microsoft@windows@operating system is ticked. tip anything that is not Microsoft under Manufacturer can be unticked.

click Apply then OK a window will appear asking to reboot click reboot.

This should speed up your startup. Its worth updating Your antivirus and running a antivirus scan.
Also download anti spyware/malware software like spybot Its free - update on installation and run a computer scan and delete any found shite.

Also defrag your hard drive Start - all programs - Accessories - System tools - disk defragmeter select the drive you wish to defrag (usually C) click Defragment Disk.

Leaving your PC in sleep mode is only making the pc worse it needs frequent re boots.

All this stuff will make your pc run like new.

Blimey, that was comprehensive. I want to try all that but I don't use a PC at home!!

Nice work.

Many thanks for all the advice, just found that BT will ,charge me £1.50. for an extra 1GB if required it starts ok but after a time half hour or 20 mins the screen goes blue with a display saying " your computer has run into a problem and needs to restart". It then sometimes dosent re start
but comes up " no boot disc available" and sometimes it restarts. But, leaving it on sleep cures all problems and all works normally.
Thanks for the advice but the main worry was I'd get a penalty for going over the limit.

Tha's the BSOD. Blue Screen of Death.

Someone who knows about Windows will be along to help you. It's not a good sign. In my experience, once you get a BSOD they keep on coming unless you take some action.

Make sure your important stuff is backed up, on an external hard drive, just in case.

I thought it was serious having heard form others but have connected an external hard drive to back up everything but as I as leaving it in sleep mode has cured the prob, as it happened every time but since sleep mode was used no probs.

Bloody thing I knew I shouldent have written that, just went back to it's old ways!!!!.:blast:blast:blast:blast

If you use Windows 7 or 8, you may well find that your system is actually downloading the installation files for Windows 10 in the background

I've read of this happening as a 'feature' to make installation of the new OS a lot faster, but obviously it involves d.loading masses of data without your knowledge or explicit permission.....have a google up about it :)

BSOD occurring like that may be a sign of your hard disk failing. Happened to me - a quick change and all has been well since (on that score at least).
