Any of you Tossers ride a pushbike?

Nice, still a pretty big challenge.

I'll be doing some, ahem, planning with the boys down the pub tomorrow after which we'll have a list of events for this year. Alway easier to commit to these things after about 5 beers. ;)

Aye it's a big challenge, all very hilly too.
My local riding is hilly and the most I've done is 30miles so I need to step it up a gear or two in the next few months.

i am using my garmin which does all the stuff but the cadence sensor is on my best bike and as i am using my old bike on the trainer, no cadence. talking of cadence, it always seems to come out at around 70 which seems low when i read around about it but i feel more comfortable pushing a higher gear than i do spinning faster.

did 25 miles sunday with my son and his wife who are both booked on to the london to paris 24hr. ride this year. i have no doubt son will complete it, not so sure his Mrs.

start the training regime in earnest next week. just gotta get rid of this fookin excess weight :eek

Just in from a ride to the village, must look into some ear warmers, the headwind was cruel on the way back, first ride of 2014 three miles
I work that out as about half a mince pie not counting the cream.

Still rather liking the idea of cycling the Mosel valley between Trier and koblenz in August

Jim,
If you get as far as Winningen there is a hotel in the village which specialises in the cyclist and also motorcyclist. IE drying rooms, rooms setup for single persons etc

Just been out on my push bike to the nearest post office.
First time on a pedal cycle for a few years:eek

8 miles took 43 minutes, bit of a headwind coming back, but by fuck has it made me sweat:thumb2
Thoroughly enjoyed it, only abused one car driver:D

Off ter walk dog now.

It was this thread that prompted me to dust off the old bike.

Nice one Att. You've got some of the best cycling roads in the country right on your front doorstep.
No excuse for not doing one of the 2 sportives that run past your house now & I can also thorougly recommend the Grimsthorpe Sportive that starts in the south of the county. :thumb2

Off the bike after a spill which resulted in a stinking sore knee - crap

Just back from two hours in Delamere with the usual Thursday night crowd. Only did 14km in distance, but reckon we pedalled twice that with wheelspin. After a swift restorative pint, I've washed half a hundredweight of shite of the bike and down the drive. :D

This time last year I made a stupid mistake which wrote off my car (near my Sisters house) (the car was subsequently put back on the road by a new owner for £200 by the way) so rather than tempt fate I've decided to stick to cycling as much as possible. Its only 14 miles in a day but all uphill coming home and with knackered lungs, it takes some effort.

So after my 1st day in work last Thursday, I find myself in traffic at the roundabout (near my Sisters house) and I've cycled this way thousands of times so I know that if I squeeze up the inside I'm going to get pushed down the 1st exit when I want the 2nd. Therefore I queue up in the traffic and take my turn like everyone else. As I get to be the lead 'vehicle' I'm waiting for a biggish gap (it'd be handy if more cars would indicate) when as I'm minding my own business, my mountain bike takes off, quickly followed by me lurching forward. In a split second I went from thinking 'oh shit' to 'keep it upright' and then 'phew' as the car realised I was infront of him even through he'd been behind me for a minute or two in the queue. Just as I was about to turn to look at him in a sort of 'come on' fashion I heard a massive bang at which point my thoughts were to get out of the way.

After the obligatory is everyone alright questions we went round the corner and I gave the car driver my details, bizarrely as a witness, as I was unharmed and mountain bike was undamaged  It would seem that the pickup driver saw me move quickly (as I was pushed) and was looking to follow us onto the roundabout...

Thinking about it as I was cycling home, it's going to be an awkward one to explain from the car drivers point.. I set off but the cyclist hadn't moved so I stopped and the pick up hit me.. Could be tricky when the pickup driver says I saw the cyclist move and the car and then they both stopped quickly. I expect it'll get messy should I be asked for my side of the story..

After they'd departed I pushed my mtb back to the junction and had to cycle through the bits of broken car :augie

With all the recent cyclist deaths I feel very lucky to be involved in a car crash where the car that hit me is wrote off :eek

Sounds like you had a very lucky escape there.

Very lucky escape mate. It's for this reason that I won't ride in London during the week.

Off out for a ride in a mo - had better take it easy for the first ride of 2014 so will do a short twenty miler to loosen things up. Hoping the mince pies haven't done too much damage!
