My left switch gear is broken and when I took a look at it last week, I ended up with an explosion of small springs and plastic bits. Anyway, I want to see if I can sort out a bodge to get her back in action.

The indicator still works.

The horn is easy to wire a switch to.

The headlamp, that's got me a bit confused. I want to wire it so that the dipps are on all the time. I plan on putting a switch in to to turn on and off the full beam. When I'm wiring it, should the high beam and low beam be fed current at the same time? Or would it damage the bulb? What's normal?

Well, I don't know what bike you've got or what lights you've got in it but if you have a H4 type bulb (one with two filaments - main & dip) then I think it might be a bad idea wiring it up so that dip and main come on at the same time. I think it will overheat.
If you have seperate bulbs I don't think it will be a problem.

I may be wrong, someone more knowledgeable about such things will be along to confirm or refute me.

TBH, the main thing I need to do today is wire in a switch for the horn. That's easy but I thought if I put a switch in for the hi/low beam while I'm at it, it might mean I can go out and have fun instead of spending €80 online and have to wait until next weekend to fit the feck'n thing.

Horn's working fine now with a push button switch put where the ignition is on the right hand switch gear. Looks good:D Wish I could figure out the lights. Is there a way to tell if you've blown one of the filiments without a multimeter? I'm going for a blast tomorrrow. i'd like to be able to blib the lights. I could hold the button down if I needed full lamps...

Help would be appreciated. I know I'm not a donating member but frankly, I don't have a credit card.

That's a lie. I have a card and wonder if you could have left hand switchgear for me in two weeks, Mr Steptoe?
