CAUTION - Update problems

OK. Thanks for the update.

I’m afraid that exhausts my ideas. It certainly sounds as if something is very wrong within the device itself.

If the device is still within warranty, I’d ask the retailer for a new one.

OK, that solves the mystery.

As I guessed, the device does not have the detailed maps for the whole of Europe installed. Or, if they are installed, they are not active ie. ‘Ticked’. That is why it cannot create or display routes.

The XT is capable of updating its software and maps wirelessly over the internet, which is the method I use. It seems to do it reliably (touch wood) over a reasonably fast internet connection.

Try:

1. Turning on the device, without connecting it to your PC.

2. Connecting the device to your home wifi.

3. Go to the updates section and see if you can perform an update, including an update of the maps.

If that works, great. Problem solved.

If it doesn’t work…..

1. Back up whatever data the device holds, favourites for example, to your PC.

2. Perform a hard re-set of the device. This will delete your personal data but it won’t delete anything that Garmin installed from new. If you are not bothered about losing any personal data, skip stage 1.

3. Then update the software and maps wirelessly, ie. without the device being connected via your PC.

Does that work?

No maps installed- like I said 10 posts ago.

Unfortunately the OP for some reason can’t connect his XT to his computer, and so can’t use Garmin Express, which would, I feel sure, solve the problem by using the “reinstall maps” function.

An update re my satnav problems. I returned the XT to the retailer who sent it on to Garmin. After 5 weeks (uncharacteristically patient for me) I contacted the retailer for an update. They spoke to Garmin, learnt that my satnav was still not sorted and were authorised by Garmin to send me a new unit. I've received that and it is so far so good although no explanation as to the fault has been forthcoming.
I'm left wondering what would have happened if I hadn't chased up the repair

I'm having the same problem after the April 2024 update. Very annoying and I hope someone from Garmin is on this...
