Also, bolts holding the end float were very very tight. Proper crack off them when opened. Tightened to 9nm as per steptoes 850/1150 thread. Hope this is good. As always let me know if I’m wrong. A bit like telling me my flies are down😂 I’ll be embarrassed but thankful.

Honestly, I'm finding it quite difficult trusting anything / anyone. I've had max Bmw wrong and Haynes wrong. I mean it's quite obvious how my luggage rack goes back together. the parts manuals were wrong. I move on I sort it

Listen pal, removing that rusted thing in the swing arm is removed by a slide hammer not a hammer and blunt chisel.

I'd love a set of oem torque values for a 2007 R1200 gs. Ireland / uk version

2,3 and 4 are M8 and the 18NM

I sure was. Sorry for the strop. We buried my uncle Saturday and along with being overtired I got upset and took it out on you lot. Apologies. As usual I’m full of regret.

Yes, I think you missed that the engine in the pictures is not a 1200, it is an earlier 850 or 1100 I believe.
Whilst the basic engine principles are the same there are a lot of differences. A "1200" cam also mean different things, you need to be sure that information you source is for the 2004-2010 range. After that there were vey significant engine changes.
BTW, kicking Steptoe is not a good idea, he may have some faults but he has been working, professionally, on this range of bikes for a very long time. You can tap that pivot out from the other side, I have done exactly that using a long bar.

We have nothing to gain by taking the time to write our comments, research the infirmation or to search for photos. That is our own free time we use. When someone posts a link from a previous post it may have taken some time to find it. Knowing it is there dies not make it easier to find. Sometimes it can be frustrating and take a lot longer than we had wished. We also have partners who would like to share time with us, dinners to cook etc...

I made this pdf extract from my RepRom (BMW CD Service Manual). It is the tightening torque values for the engine fasteners, for all revisions up to October 2007.

Yeah agree. I can get a bit snow blind - it’s of my many bad personality traits. Along with being a bit of an agro twat when I’ve too much to drink. Which in my defence, I’m doing less and less of these days. Drinking - not being a twat 🤪

When I say I’m finding it hard to trust anyone, take that with a pinch of salt. However, I’ve caught my Haynes manual out a couple of times and I’ve seen oem fiches that are just wrong. In the end, it turns out I had torqued those nuts fine to 18nm so I’ve made a proper tit out of myself for absolutely no reason at all. Bravo me.

As for you Steptoe, sorry for having a pop at you. Uncalled for.

I really do appreciate the help, advice and experience from all the commenters on here. I would NOT be at this point with out you. Indeed I would never have the confidence to try this level of diy had I not spent the last 15 years reading and absorbing all of your succcess and failures and solutions.

Anyway in the interests of my own sanity ( I’ve had two days off working on this since the 10th August) I’ll crack on and finish this. So..

Rechecked valves - all good.

Changed gearbox oil.

Collecting the rubber bungs for the cylinder head bolts at 12.

Currently replacing the glass on the broken mirror.

Crash bars may go on but if I can get it running properly think I’ll take it for a shake down.
