Confused about service schedules

The bike was bought March 2008 and had its running in service, 1 year later a service at 2500 miles.

Have you considered doing a few more miles rather than spending time surfing the internet?At your current rate you don't need to worry. Get the bike serviced annually and be done with it.

The service indicator will tell you when you need a service. First by date, once you're 600 miles away it'll switch to that.

Don't know what you're talking about, will have done 800 miles by Sunday since picking up last week. Not bad I think...

An 08 starts counting down the miles to the next service as part of the checking process at startup. I can't remember if it starts doing it at 1000 or 500 miles but it lets you know when it's getting near. As someone else said it's not a problem if you do < 6000 in a year.

To clarify the situation -
At pdi the 2 service clocks are set, the first clock is a calendar clock so if you don't do the reqd mileage ie every 6k then then date appears on the instrument cluster as the service reminder.
The mileage clock should be set to come on at 600mls during pdi as well, after the running in service this will be set to come on at 6k & then every 6k so if you do this kind of mileage or more then this will come on rather than the date clock.
The senario that seems to have happened here is that the chap in question has not covered 6k in the year only say 3k so the calender element of the service clock has been displayed,this will have been reset after the service so his next annual service will be 12months from the date of THAT service.
However he will be up to 6k in less than that period so the mileage service reminder will appear.
At the dealership the new service schedule system on their computer will take in to account the fact that he's already had an annual service that year already & providing they enter all the times and mileages correctly in when they generate the 6k service schedule for that bike it will tell the technician what to do at that particular service ie if oil & filter were done less than 3k ago then they won't be done at the 6k service.
Its a very complicated way of looking after your bike & its something thats appeared from the car side.
I much prefer the old method where there was 3 types of service Minor,Major ,Annual & no flippin service clocks

I was told on Sat when getting some oil that the annual service has been done away with for new bikes from 08 onwards. The dealer also says they are still getting to grips with the changes. If the service indicator comes on at 6k I'll just call them and explain the situation. No need for oil at 6k anyway and see if I can get it serviced at 6k from the last service instead. Seems to be sensible!

Don't know who told you that bit of waffle.Was it the Glasgow branch or the Edinburgh branch?? If you really need to know anything service related then speak to Stevie Smith in the workshop at Motorrad Central Edinburgh. You'll get a short & maybe abrupt answer at times but at least it'll be right, he's been fixing 'em for over 1/4 century!!!
