Do dealers give a damn?

This is isn't about buying a bike but about buying some boots. I suppose if I was buying a bike they'd be more interested. What's a pair of boots to them?

So, I am looking for a pair of boots for the hot weather. I've identified some clothes but now want some short boots that I could also wear off the bike for a short while and still be comfortable.

I thought that the Oxtar Urban might be one choice but trying to locate dealers that sell it is liking getting blood from a stone. BMW do a Sneaker 2 boot that may also fit the bill so I e-mailed the four nearest BMW dealers to ask. Only one replied with a curt "Sorry we don't stock it."

Maybe the answer is to contact BMW Motorrad directly. Can I find contact details on their web site? No way! So, I e-mail BMW UK and, so far, nothing.

Why do these people bother to be in business? Maybe they aren't used to this new-fangled technology called e-mail...

On the other side of the coin, I contacted Hood Jeans for a pair of reinforced jeans for use on the bike. I received a reply staright away. I spoke to them on the telephone. I placed an order on the web last night and had an e-mail confirmation that the goods are in stock and will be with me within 7 days. That's the sort of service I like and the sort of companies I prefer to give business to.

Meanwhile, if anybody has any suggestions for other lightweight and cool boots (and gloves for that matter), I'd be pleased to hear.

Thanks

David

It's a conspiracy! They don't answer your emails cos they want you to come to the shop. You will then probably buy more stuff & maybe get the card out and put a deposit down on one of those new fangled 1200 thingies :thumb

Hi SteelD.

For BMW ones call Balderston and make sure you speak to Gill - she knows what she's talking about. If you email or get the parts guy they won't have the specialist knowledge and will pretty much only be able to tell you if it's in stock or not.

I personally have the Daytona Trans Open GTX which I wear year round but I'm a bit ATGATT...

You could have a look at the Daytona Journey GTX

which is a ventilated but still waterproof boot (ideal for British summers  ) or the Moto Fun
motofun_bk_sil_red_large.jpg

which is really a shoe with reinforcement round the gear change area. (other colours available)

I got mine from Riderhouse in Royston but it was a few years ago, I think Hideout leather also stock them.

Hope that helps :thumb

And no doubt I'll bump into you if I haven't already...

More and more GSes in Cambridge these days :D

I did that and you are right - Gill was very helpful and has them in stock. I'll go over there in the next day or two. Thanks for the tip.

I was looking at a pair of Gericke boots today.....high ankle things with plenty of protection but bery light....'Stunt boots' I think they're called....not cheap at £90 but looked pretty good as a compromise between ATGATT and summer comfort :thumb
