help.
yes the bike not me well not yet but its trying my sanity,
ive got a dry grinding noise from the bike when i do slow left and right turns in first gear.thought it might be brakes stripped ,changed pads all ok had front wheel bearings changed they were ok,changed rear drive piviot bearing and still the bloody noise is still there bike has done 42,000 miles.:
any help would be great as im running out of idears.

Unlikely but....

I was checking my valves and when turning the crank over by hand (using the nut on teh front behind the plastic panel) it was REALLY stiff :augie and terrible grinding noise.

I pulled the starter motor off and it was much better. I stripped the starter motor down and there was so much dried up dust / crap in the bendix gear that I can only assume it was engaged to the fly wheel.

I really cant imagine that it would be engaged whilst the engine is running / riding but its pretty easy to check.

Either that or you are dragging your pegs a lot :thumb

Have you checked for sideways movement of the rear wheel? I had a similar problem and it turned out to be rear wheel bearings.

well i i decided to change the rear wheel bearing, the large one and the oil seal, not to hard a job,but to no avail there still seams to be a noise i think i will have to slowly go through the whole bike untill i can find something.
but thanks for all the idears all are welcome,i will try to persiver or die trying.

Previous threads on this - my 1200RT does it as do many other BMs - seems unconnected with final drive issues so maybe just ignore?

Can you do slowish turns in 2nd gear OK?.Any problems going straight ahead?.
Try a search for tyre problems.

Thought I had a similar problem but it was my front tyre (Tourance). Only seemed to make the noise on quieter road surfaces where it wasn't being drowned out by the other noises. Maybe a possibility? Oh, and that was only whilst leant over - not going straight ahead.
