DVD ripping

Does anybody know where i can download some ripping software from for copying dvds (mac or pc)

Is this for copying films or just data...? I was under the impression that you couldn't copy films on a DVD due to some clever encryption.........

on an OSX Mac DVDbackup copies commercial DVDs, more info at http://www.wormintheapple.gr/macdvd/
