Errors in Version 8 Mapsource.

What would be dead useful is if opening times can be included in petrol station data. Even if it doesn't route to or only display open ones and just displays whether or not they're open for business in the list, e.g. Q8 CLOSED, Tesco CLOSED, Tesco CLOSED, Esso OPEN - saves you going to the first 3.

The 28xx series might be close to that idea, they may have the phone numbers in it, as on the PC you can see the POI's "information and IIRC that has phone numbers.

Someone will get upset if the GPS doesn't dial it for you though :nenau

Okay then lets take the question in order shall we.

JOHN

Don't be such a cnut.Of course I would not expect the GPS to tell me but as you are totally missing the point I will say it again,,,perhaps,,,,real,,,,slow,,,so,,,even,,,will,,,understand. The ,,,petrol,,,stations,,,I,,,am,,,,referring,,,to,,,have,,,been,,,shut,,,for ,,,wait for it,,,,YEARS.

FFS the one even has houses built on where the station was.Happy now.??

Okay STEPTOE.

as far as I know ALL Garmin units will tell you where a petrol station is(was) but that don't mean it's still open for business. Like I said the GPS shows by marker there is a petrol station is there but it ain't.

TAFF.

I know of 2 in the area I live in and another 2 in ST Davids (Wales) where I spent an enjoyable week there.
I do not have my GPS on the bike at all times but sometimes completely ignore icons until I need petrol or anything else shown on screen..It was the fact I had almost run out of petrol in St Davids that I noticed where the GPS said a station was and I headed in the direction and couldn't find them that I began to look out for others.Initially I thought it was a glitch in programming, but NO the stations were not there.

Now, I know you smart guys are asking "If I know the petrol stations in my area are not there why look for them.??",, The simple answer to that one is "To prove a point!!"

xpi0t0s

I understand what you are saying,,, I think!!

Anyways, guys,,

BE SAFE.

Hey TAFF

Just noticed you are in(from) Carmarthen,, Just at thought, ST David's is a little run away from there.Any chance you can go look for me,, I know there is the one (Texaco) which by the way is not shown on GPS, about half mile outside on the A487 from SOLVA, but the 2 I am referring to are supposed to be IN St David's near to NUN Street.

We suspect the hardware shop MATHIAS is where the petrol station used to (should) be.

TIA>

more useful would be if they could identify french petrol stations that are "24 hour" automated pumps only french bank card holder can use :spitfire

Found five GHOST stations, three in my home town and two, like I said, when I needed petrol in Belgium.

I can live with the 'TURN RIGHT' when it's only a bend or 'Take the second exit' from the roundabout when it's a now a junction but I came close to running out of fuel in Belgium, that ain't funny!

Tint ferkin 'Rocket science'......Garmin sell the kit and after, I don't know how many software versions, I started on a SP3 on v5, I'm now on v8, on 2610, I expect it to have at least the stations removed that have been closed for years and in GPSONOFPAN case, houses built on, to be removed

Not a lot to ask......or is it?

JACAL.

I agree with you wholeheartedly.

As I mentioned earlier I am new to this GPS malarky.Maybe if I had "suffered" as much as some of you guys I would have done something about it.

Hang on a tick,,, I am doing something ain't I?? (I'm moaning about it) and only after 2 months,, Jeez, imagine how I will be in another 2 months time,, Doesn't bear thinking about!

Cheers

Pat

In other countries or unknown parts of the UK, i tend not to run low on fuel. I always refill with about 50 miles fuel still inmy tank -

it's called taking responsibilty for yourself :D :D

can be tricky on the the roads i like to ride in france, especially on a sunday or monday.

Each to their own -

but I bought my 2610 to route me through places on roads I don't know and have never ever used it to find petrol or a hotel as I have never had a problem seeing them by the side of the road and making a decision that I need to sleep soon or might need to add fuel as I might run out.

If I am in a mountain man region and there is not likely to be fuel around in them there hills I am able to take that into account as well and fill up earlier than I need too, say with 100+ miles left in tank.

Neither do I drive into farmers fields because the GPS says to go that way ( I know some do).

Okay, time to put this into perspective.Right, having never been to St David's, and assuming petrols stations would be around,I went immediately to a "Tourist Information" place to ask about the campsites in area.

That is also a mistake in MApsource,The information place is actually on outskirts of St David's not in the village as Mapsource says. :nenau ,, Anyway, I digress,,,Having found the campsite, I decided to take a run to enjoy to local areas.I noticed the 2 icons showing on screen as to where the stations were.I rode further into the village and up and down "Nun Street" ,, Couldn't find either one.By now I was getting annoyed, I had spent good money on this useless POS and now it's telling me 2 petrol stations are "somewhere". :nono

I resorted to going back to the tourist info place and asking them. The woman directed me back OUT of St David's onto a main road I had not come in on.About a half mile away from the village. :spitfire This whole excercise cost me 1 hour as I rode up and down and round a one way system and back to info place and out to petrol station to get the fuel before I could carry on with my holiday. Not a good start.

Of course, once I got home again I decided to check on stations I knew had closed down YEARS ago. ;) Sure enough they were still listed.I have since been out with the GPS on the bike and noticed a few more.

Hope that clears all this up.

Buy a house on a road that is on a Gps system next to a 24/7 Petrol station + Wimpy and all your problems will be solved, and you will be able to find your way home.

Okay,

I took the easy way out.I e-Mailed Garmin support to ask ifanybody tested the software or do they rely on users to do "someone's" work.

They sent me a link to report any errors and they would forward to NAVTEQ.
So, conscience cleared I can now carry on mumbling about errors.

Take Care, Be safe

Crikey, crikey,, I didn't realise how old this thread was..:augie

Anyways, RESULT for those interested,Tesco has taken over the site of the petrol station closed for 3 years(now 4) and have opened a tesco express with a petrol station.
Amazing what a little moaning will do.:thumb2

Thanks for your patience.:bounce1
