fuel consumption!

Super unleaded.....wot a waste of money.....it all depends on a number of fings, oil viscosity, tyre pressure, up hills or down, use of right hand to control the throttle thingy, your weight before and after a Big Mac, loaded, unloaded, rain or sun, motorway or twisty....this can go on forever.......you can expect anything from 40 to 55 mpg. Fill with 95....set mpg trip...ride and read!

Please please don't ask about oil and tyres though, all you will get is sarky comments!!!! :augie

It might be a waste on pre 2010 models, but I can certainly tell a difference on my 2010 GSA with Shell Optimax. Better fuel consumption, smoother, and a little more grunt. Each change itself isn't massive, but putting all 3 together makes a big difference imo :thumb2

oh dear , i must be getting old as regually get 55 + , with a best ever of 63 potering in Ireland.
Filled the tank up full to brim and ran it out 275 miles later, interestingly put in 22 litres standard gs

I'm guessing on a standard GS you'll get better fuel consumption as it's lighter than the adventure. I've got the GSA, plus I'm not exactly the lightest person in the world :augie

i think the engine is quite efficient but the aerodynamics kill it. Typically i get 47.8 from my 2008 GSA while commuting, aiming for a steady 75-ish but frequently stuck in a queue behind a lorry which is doing 0.5 mph more than the other lorry its trying to overtake...

On a weekend ride on the twisties with a pillion I got over 50 mpg, i assume because the top speed was lower even if there was more acceleration and braking.

Funny thing is the mpg only displays certain numbers...47.8, 48.7, 49.5, 50.1 I think is the sequence. It does go below 47 but i can't remember what the readings are!

OK I'll give the super fuel a go on Sat as I'm off to the Brecon Beacons for a play, anyone else in the area? :ronno

Low 50's ridden briskly :D (ex courier) I have always put super unleaded in mine. It runs smoother, and on a brim to brim test (sad I know) gives 3 mpg better than standard fuel.

That's interesting. I tried 98 ron for 3 tanks onthe trot and got no improvement. Might give it another go. Used to with the Varadero (carbed) - prolly 20 extra miles to the tank

FWIW - 47mpg fast with panniers, 52 for usual pottering.

madames F800 - 62 average!

I use 95 Ron as recommended in the users manual and on the sticker next to the tank filler. 4.9 Lts per 100 Klm on average
Safe riding

dont be tight

mine certainly feels smoother on tesco 99ron,dont think the economy is much affected but its worth it for the more refined feel from the engine!

I use 95 stuff unless the pumps are busy and I'll use super-duper.

Bike gets between 40 motorway razzing and/or caning it and high 60's whilst bimbling, on tour..

:comfort

1200GS 2008, always with 95RON, 20W-50 engine oil and a clean air filter.

At 230 kms the warning msg flashes and gives me another 70kms on the counter and 20 kms more when I dare to drive a little more.
That is about 320 kms with 20lt tank
(20lt x 100)/320 = 6,25lt per 100kms.
Quite good for a gently driving in a big city...(Athens/Greece)

Absolutely no idea. Lifes too short to worry about checking fuel consumption down to point something of a gallon. When it's near empty I fill it. It runs low and I fill it again.

The biggest difference I get in fuel consumption is with or without side cases. Highway speeds with side cases are worst.

:D Nicely put - Some people must have really interesting evenings and be the life and soul of the party:augie. just fill it up when it needs fuel and forget the numbers.:beerjug:

In that case then i must be ancient because i average around 330 miles out of a tank but then i tend to do more motorway miles, and i do potter a lot :D

I have had it saying 67mpg but it varies, i am also using 95. Best to date was 346miles with 16 left in the tank, warning triangle had been on for some time and i was willing it to the next petrol station Lol :JB

You obviously have more money than me.

:)

My Butler tells me that the bike will do 44.1mpg

I get him to fill it up for me as I am too important to do it myself.....

:augie

home in cheshire to ferry in dover on a tank full, calais to amsterdam on next tank full then i forget.....

My Golf does 70 to the gallon on a good run, picking a new gsa up friday, be seriously pissed off if i cant get near to that out of it...

Just reset the computer whilst rolling off the throttle on a motorway exit ramp - you'll get 70mpg no problem.:augie
