Just got the bike back having had a second failure. First replaced under warranty 15 months or so ago. Mike the technician at Cardiff Mottorad confirmed there had been a recall to change the gasket, and the new blue one did a better job. I never received a recall notice. Can other peeps out there remember this, and know when the recall was issued. The main dealer in Cardiff has closed and I wonder about transfer of information prior to this. I'm considering a letter to BMW customer relations if I was missed in the recall asking for a contribution towards the cost of the replacement 2nd unit. Another unit on order to be carried on the bike at all times.

Mine is a late April 05 bike and already had the blue gasket fitted but still didn't stop it failing a month ago. The replacement controller is a different design to the original and will hopefully be more reliable. I think the blue gaskets were fitted from around March 05

Mine is May 05, Williams changed mine on the 600 service. I too carry a spare thingie just-in-case but have so far not had a problem. That said i have booked into Williams to have THE oil leak checked out, YES the gearbox one

I also have a May 05 1200 on which the dreaded oil leak is appearing, just 3 months out of warranty, and after 12,000 miles. Clearly a latent defect. I just wrote yesterday to BMW Customer Service to describe this and plead for some goodwill.

btw, I also purchased a spare fuel pump controller & gasket (for my '05 1200GS) but have had no problems during my 1st 7 months of ownership...apart from a blown bulb & a puncture.
