Gear changes

Pleased you got it sorted Bionic :D

That Acrapovic looks nice Wyreflyer,:thumb2 I suppose I'll end up buying one :blast

I cancelled my dealer fit alarm, went in to get the money refunded onto my debit card and ended up buying an Akropovac! Dealers are bloody dangerous places. Sounds fantastic.:D

It sounds even better!:D Still waiting for engine bars and LED spots to arrive though.:tears

The dark screen would finish that off!:D

I love the look of the spoke wheels. I was tempted to pop into the dealers yesterday and change my order from alloy wheels. Then I read the other thread and decided I'd done the right thing in the first place. Now you go and post that picture!! :eek

AArrrrgggghhhh!

I'm sticking with the alloys........I think!

There is an argument for keeping both sets :-)

The spokes with a decent set of off-road capable tyres and the alloys for Tarmac.....

Sounds a good idea, but I have no plans to spend any time in the dirt.....ahem.

I'll chuck a pair of carbon rims on it next year!

Life.

A race to see who can die last with the most toys.

Carbon rims? I'm ruling nothing out!!!

smooth on mine too

Doesn't sound right to me, the gear change is just fine on my bike - apart from the characteristic 'clunk' into 1st.

My Bike has covered 680 miles and the gears are perfect, you get a clunck in to first, which is normal and then its fine up or down I give a rev prior to down changes.

I must say it seems even smoother after the 600 service which is more likely due to increasing the revs. I do notice a clunck when changing at slow speeds but nothing drastic comparing it to all my past bikes its about the same.

Speaking to the dealer he said that you must have the 5w 40 fully synthetic motorcycle specific oil preferably Castrol this is due to the slipper clutch. He said be warned you will not get smooth gear changes with other grades.

hope this helps and enjoy it cheers Terry

600 Service today and hit neutral every time on the way home.

I just don't get it - I have had the two previous 1200s and this gear box is just as good if not better (apart from the shift into first when setting off) than the old bikes. It is silent changing up and no clonkier when going down.

Most of the posts here are from newbies so I think it is about them learning how to change gear on a bike that is new to them - give it a few months and the problem will disappear.

I've been riding boxer twins for well over 25yrs.
I've owned over 20 with around half of them purchased new,and although most of them have had a slightly agricultural gearbox with the exception of my last TC and a 99 1100s which both had beautiful gearboxes, they have been nothing compared to the box on my WC GS.

I can accept the crunch into 1st gear but the change from 1st-2nd is cringe inducing with the change from 2nd-3rd being a little but not a lot better.

It was fine up until the first service ?

The dealer is going to have a look on 2nd July,I'll keep you posted.

Loving the bike but this problem is taking the edge of a little, plus it's the first new bike I've ever had to take back for a problem.

Steve

Mine clunks into 1st from N - which I can live with as my CB was the same.
However getting into N is a pain 2 -> 1, 1 -> 2 and then 2 -> N

Mentioned it to the dealer as mine is in for its 1st service....we'll see what they say.

Sorry to hear that Steve, bloody inconvenient with another 90 mile round trip, just for a diagnosis.....................then another trip for a fix

Pita..........for sure

I was out at the weekend on mine, and went to change from 3rd to 4th whilst doing an overtake, and either I didn't apply enough pressure, or there's a problem with the gearbox, but the bike didn't go into gear, and then there was an almighty crunch before it slipped into 4th.

Its never happened before, and I had been riding all day so may have been half asleep, so I'll keep an eye on this. Has anyone else experienced this?

I've now adjusted the gear lever a bit higher, and moved the clutch lever out a click, so that may have sorted it. If not, I'll take it down to the dealer to have a look at.
