Gear lever adjustment ?

Can anyone explain to me how you are supposed to adjust the gear selector lever on my 1999 R1100GS ? There is an adjuster which is threaded at both ends - when I slacken off the retaining nuts and tighten it one way it loosens the other end and vice versa.
I unscrewed it totally and screwed it in as far as I could into the gear lever end then screwed it into the other end but this starts unscrewing the gear lever end so the net result is only a slight improvement.
I am trying to raise up the gear selector which is too low.

You need to disconnect it from the gear lever first. There's a little spring clip holding the socket onto the ball of the gear lever. Remove the clip and prise the socket off the lever. Then you can unscrew (or screw ) to your hearts content.

Always assuming it's the same as the 1150 of course.

Cheers Steve - it looks pretty similar to the diagram except the distance between the 2 clips is much longer on the 1100 but I'll take a look tonight for some clips and see what I can break in the process Much obliged to you

It's not obvious from the pic, but you have to rotate the clip through 180 degrees then lift it out.

Now .....anyone got any advice on how to raise the rear brake pedal - it looks a bit more complicated.......? My gear lever and brake pedal are too low down especially when I am standing up on the pegs messing around off road.

There's a certain amount of adjustment. Slacken the locknut (1) on the rear push-rod link (2) and lengthen as much as possible, whilst shortening the stop-bolt (A) at the other end of the pedal.

The footpeg lowering kits come with a longer push rod and a shorter bolt.

If you can't get enough adjustment that way, attach a thick metal plate to the pedal so it brings it closer to your foot.
