Greek islands and an old XT600

I did have the goat again
And to clear up any confusion, this is what half a kilo of cold red wine looks like
I didn’t take an after picture

Have to say I’ve never cared for Greek wine, but not tried in the last decade - so maybe improved 🤔
I do love Cypriot wine from the Troodos though. Obviously red only 🍷

insanely jealous :D

enjoy

always wanted to ride from croatia to thessiloniki or maybe do the presidential guard

xt cos off road god or just to plod about?
XT because I own it!
Actually a great bike for this trip, fine on tarmac and gravel roads, easy to plod about on and you know the bike can take whatever I throw at it

Much as I admire Mickys adventures, the thought of wobbling along on a wee bike in today's traffic doesn't excite me a bit! I'll take the Volvo!
So I'll quit while I'm ahead!
And what of a Honda 350 scoot or the like as ridden by @Arsey and others here often right across Europe? Surely the like of that could help extend your riding career?

It’s a great bike

Or perfect for Greek island hopping
It would be, small is good.

I left Iraklia this morning, very happy to have gone on the bike after years of wanting to, a wee lap on the way to the ferry.
Then the Skopelitis again, on time, nice lads, to Naxos and met wife and friends. I’ll head up the island in the morning and they’ll do their thing.

Love it Alastair...thanks.
I've now bitten the bullet and will be selling my bike in the next day or so, so relying on other people's trips from now on...pisser!
That's a proper shame, we were all hoping that you'd throw your leg over something smaller, and the passion would get re-kindled...but you'll know yourself, when it's time, it's time.

You could still run rings around most on here, and it was a pleasure following you on a few trips, perfect lines, smooth riding and barely a brake light, even when pushing on !
And a pleasure to see you leaving 2 sports bikes in your dust without even trying :D

No confidence mostly....if I can't do what I used to be able to do, I'd rather not try. No sense in letting a decent bike moulder away, so it will need to go. I used to be a good rider, but old age doesn't come alone! Sad but fact of life...
Smaller bike ?

I have been buzzing around the Highlands (took our bikes up to Corran in a mate’s van) on a 400, this last week and it’s been grand

Breath of fresh air, in fact …..after Moffat the weekend before on the 1150 GS Adv

I also have an old (1991)DR650. It’s going in for a rebuild/recommission in a couple of weeks. I’m going to ride it to Chamonix, meet my lad who also has an old DR650. We’re then going to Morocco on them. This will probably happen in 2027 as we’re both busy for the next year or so with work.

Kind words Mike....and thats really why I'm packing it in...if I can't do what I once could....time to stop trying!

Now....back to Greece!

What a great trip!

Yet to meet a bike cop that was slow?! lol

That was great Alistair, now looking forward to seeing Naxos. What a wonderful way to tour.

A bit of rope, cardboard and fag in mouth the bike is secured - Greek Style (y)

And it worked. Nice guy doing the cargo fixing and he made sure my bike was solid, on the first trip to Iraklia I parked close to the boxes, he then lifted the back end against them so it couldn’t fall that way then a rope to the offside. The only issue is when they stop at an island they don’t hang about, I was getting my bike away from the boxes before we docked.
Apparent mayhem that works well.

A great evening last night with my wife and her friends, breakfast this morning and I left to go north on Naxos. I’d added a few litres of fuel as I knew I’d probably head down a few dead end tracks just to see where they went.
As I got near the main town I passed the airport and the road goes along the end of the runway, there are traffic lights to stop you when a plane is taking off or landing. This one was taking off. Note the lack of a big fence.
The island is very hilly so the roads are appropriately twisty and small and a pleasure to ride, especially with very little traffic. When there is a wee track going off somewhere they are often dirt but steep sections will have concrete on the bigger ones. I stopped a few times for a photos or a drink, there was no rush.
I was heading for Apollonas, a small village at the top of the island. It gets a fair number of day visitors coming in for lunch or a swim then it’s very peaceful in the evenings.
I’d booked a room in a hotel on the south end of the village and the owner said he had friends coming for dinner, did I want to join them? Very kind of him and a really enjoyable evening with great food. Not many hotels do that.
So a walk in the morning, I’ve booked two nights here. And probably a swim I think, it’s certainly warm enough.
