The tie rod is "built into" the 1150 but is not on the 1200GS.
I have found an aftermarket bolt on one from Germany which doubles  in price when considering p+p.
Are there any alternatives out there??

Why do you want it? From what I can make out it is purely for bling
cosmetic value on the 1200's with their taper bars which really are non-flex.
If it is to mount GPS etc again I would argue better not on the bars but rather a stable mount with existing instruments. :eek

You may think the standard 1200 bars are non-flex.....until you try a set of Renthals which REALLY don't flex.

Then what is the cross bar on the Renthals for ???? :D

Seriously, with such a small upsweep this has got to be only cosmetic!

One of the first things to come off my new Adv is that stoopid crossbar and padded chinrest.

I'm sure someone who's into motocross or enduro will be able to confirm this, but I suspect the cross bar is there not only for stiffness but also to mount padding to prevent helmet to bar clamp interface in "expected situations" :nenau

As far as I'm concerned it's redundant but then Renthal bars aren't primarily intended for fitment to a bike that will never go off road. I fitted them to vastly improve the riding position.

Just found the Renthal manual in the garage - referring to the FAQ's:

Q4: If the handlebar is so strong, why does it need a cross brace?

A: Actually, it doesn't need a cross brace! It will work perfectly well without one. However, adding a cross-brace turns a very strong handlebar into an immensely strong handlebar.

So there you go - the official word.

I went for a rather flatter bend than the Sebastian Tortelli 998's that you used, Tobers - 999 Jeremy McGrath bend which I think are as flat as they come in Twinwalls. The height is perfect for me, leaning me further forward and with my arms at a more natural angle, but if I had to do it again I'd go for bars a similar height but with a little bit more sweep as the angle is a bit too straight. Having said that, though, now I've been using them a week I've got used to them and a bike I sat on at the dealers (with standard bars) felt REALLY weird!

Since I'm not using bar risers to bring the bars up and back I had to modify the standard screen because steering lock was seriously limited. It's now possible to get the steering lock on but the hand guards still just touch the screen on lock.

Ah, sorry, bit off topic aren't I..... :nono

I have really had a love affiar with my ProTaperes and legendary Ricky bar risers on my 1150... do not know what I will now do with the 1200 Adventure??

There's plenty of choice of bars from the Renthal range and probably from other manufacturers too. It's far easier to fit aftermarket bars to the 1200 than it was to the 1150 so I'm sure you'll have no problem finding a setup that suits you.

..as opposed to THAI bars!!!

Does anybody know where i can get a decent one from, like that are on the Renthalls or the 12adv. I got a TT one for my 1150 but the fixings were a bit crap. Want to be able to put my handlebar bag bag on to hold my Ipod.
or if anyone has one they dont want.........
