Hey up Gsers, Can you shed some light on this little problem are lass is havin with her 2006 F650gs. Seems all of a sudden like the battery has gone flat and when it has bin on charge the charger shows over 12 volts but as soon as ignition turned on this rapidly drops to bugger all..Thankya very much.

I had this same problem with my off road bike the battery was almost dry and needed topping up with distilled water if yours is a lead acid type it might be worth taking it off for a look see

If it is a sealed battery, and hence doesn't have the problem above, it could have some shorted out plates in the battery. Has it fallen over recently? Crud (bits of plate fundamentally) gets stirred up when that happens and the cells can short across it cutting down the amps available.

The usual giveaway is that switch on gives the usual array of lights on the speedo etc but ignition makes all the lights go dim and flicker because there ain't enough amps available for everything.

If it is that then it is a new battery. BMW batteries are, if I recall correctly, warrantied for 2 years so worth going back to query that on a 2006 bike.

Cheers both of you, I have done all the basics thanks, I needed confermation that it is just the battery thats duff and nowt more serious. 3000 miles and a battery faut whaterer next lol.
