Hill Start Control

First time really used in anger in Switzerland this week-end, and was I glad I had it, fully loaded 2 up, and stopping on slopes waiting for cars and buses to go by, but on one pass the Kunkelspass that was gravel and hard stone, and really dusty, I noticed that the HSC was not holding the bike the same solid way as on the road, bike was slipping back slightly so I reverted to old style holding the brake, could it have been discs had got hot, or gravel and dust, I really do not know, later it worked as normal, sandwich time maybe.
Mine has also stopped working , suspect the pads may have cooked the last time it worked successfully.

It hasn’t worked properly since yesterday . The brake is applied, but it won’t hold & starts rolling backwards. Worked fine at the start of the trip , however when applied for one photo opertunity you could smell the friction material cooking . I’ll have a better look when I stop in Nazare tomorrow.

Must admit baz my bike had been running all day 2 up fully loaded, and doing pass after pass before it started slipping, but that was only on loose gravel and stone also, maybe as you say when the bike cools down, it might work again, but very interesting.

I still reckon it’s the pads that are foo##d. Holding pads tight against a hot disc can’t do them much good. It is blamed for a lot of warped discs when people sit with brakes applied for too long.

I reckon you have a valid point there.

TFT - Brilliant. Yep, makes NAV 6 almost redundant, have to agree which is why I ditched mine. Fitted TT.

The Hillstart is indeed useful at times. When yuo have to stop for whatever reason to look at something or answer the phone, press a button, scratch an itch or get something out of your crash helmet in a hurry.

A word of caution, though, it comes off automatically if you switch the engine off. It's not a handbrake!! One of the first things I was told when I picked the bike up.

I only use it occasionally, BTW you don't need to pull the lever really hard to activate it just a short fast-squeeze (if that makes sense) and its on.

I use it at traffic lights but I never 'accelerate' it off and it seems a bit reluctant to release.
