Hilltop Results on the LC

would 208 RWHP do ya Rick

You won't get even stock RR power with a just a remap on the XR theres a bit more restriction in the XR/S1R motor compared to the RR and needs some additional work that jeff will enlighten you if you ask.

Does the remap effect warranty as was thinking of having it done but bike only 3 months old.

PM Engineer of this site, he's the expert on all things Hilltop :thumb

Alternatively do a search on Hilltop, preferably when you have a free weekend, sit back and read and read and read...................

Of course it does if you tell them !

The thing is if you dont tell them they can never find out without spending huge sums having the ECU forensicly checked and if you speak with Geoff he will tell you that if they do that it will revert back so even then ........

All that said i suspect that things like decat headers and non approved end cans etc etc could affect the warranty

Please forgive me Lord as i forgot ...........

You really think so.

All BMW will do is stick the bike on a Dyno

Look at the bhp/ torque graphs.

Notice no dip at approx. 4500 rpm.

Conclude ECU has been mapped.

If they do not have the bike then stick the ECU on another and repeat as above.

Anyone who thinks BMW / Insurance are idiots are idiots themselves

You think they have a dyno at any Motorrad dealers do you ?

They are more likely to just interrogate the ECU and see that it has been changed, they sometimes have an over write counter that shows if it's been changed

PS Does anybody know what it is that Hilltop actually do to the ECU? Can it be overwritten by a WMB software update?? Will it still work if I ride the bike two-up???

Bad man :D

I have no idea how (or even if) BMW do check the ECU to see if it has been modified...but I do know that (if they choose to) they would need nothing other than a laptop and the relevant software to immediately identify of a bikes ECU had been modified in any way.

Its just code. Cross reference the code in the ECU with a "master copy" of the OEM and hey presto. Even a single character different would be immediately obvious. They could also write a few lines that act as a marker/tag if any of their OEM code had been changed. In fact you could write something that flags if the ECU had even been accessed, never mind changed.

Truth of the matter is we have no idea if they have done this and it would only come to light if somebody had their bike remapped, then had a mechanical issue that should be covered under warranty and then BMW checked the ECU and refused the warranty claim. IMHO it is unlikely BMW would have any sort of "big brother" code in there designed to check up on us. New Euro rules may change this.

I do plan on getting my GSA remapped in the future but its only got 150 miles on it so going to use it for a while and bed the engine in. Really nice to hear so many people giving positive feedback about Hilltop. Obviously a good company giving quality service. May well be giving them a shout in the spring

I read that you have to let the bike go through all it's checks before it switches to the Hilltop map every time you start it - I reckon a decent technician working on behalf of a company trying to dodge a warranty claim would spot it in minutes.

My fascination with this subject isn't the sterling work Hilltop do (and I'm sure they do) it's the eagerness of of those willing to organise, turn up on a Saturday & hand Geoff £1500 before kick off time.

It's as though he re-maps their brain while he's at it & fools it's ECU into thinking £300 for an hour or so ain't bad! :blast

If as Geoff hinted - and as one of our embedded software engineers also thinks - that normally the entire program in re-programmable memory is over written during a re-map, then this whole business that it will revert back to the original if BMW try to examine the memory contents is nonsense. If it has been overwritten it has gone and the only way to get it back is to delete what is there and re-write the original back in.

Strange fascination you have,Geoff charged me £350 for my remap now in terms of pounds per smile etc it is way better value than say 900+ for a twat suit a helmet costing 600+ and rukk a/Klim gear 1000+ that people buy and don't have to justify why on here , it's all expensive but you only live once and the more smiles the better and my remap does that

I think you should give Geoff a ring and speak to him about it or perhaps attend one of his open days :D
